I know med passers have a lot of work to do and a lot of responsability. i work at a large assisted living faculity, right now we have 35 filled apartments.we have a lot to do. We have to get eveyone down to dinner,(mind you this place is quite large) full out prep or cook the meal, serve it all restaraunt style, then clean up and wash all dishes, clean the kitchen floors etc.then continue on to do our p.m cares, showers, room cleans, vitals, daily cleaning list and charting, not mentioning what we do before dinner. On a good day we have three aids and a med passer! i go into work sunday and it is me and one other aid to do everything by ourselves. but this is what roasts my turkey! so this med passer, (as i do our cleaning list) says im going to start on the 5 pm meds so i can help in the kitchen,im thinking great, since the other aid wont be here until 430 that would be a lot of help, at least to bring down residents. oh well guess what no help! i ran aroun like my head was cut off, trying to get everything together. i was so frustrated.even after dinner she didnt even help clear the tables! she left me to do it alone.. we go through this every time we work with her. and i mean no help flat out, if the call light goes off, she wont answer it, i can recall a couple of times when i grabbed it, while trying to get other things done, and she is standing right next to the apartment that called! she has even pulled the cord herself so one of us could change someones depend. something that would take maybe 5 minutes to do! yet she gets mad when the two of us wait in a room for a resident to use the bathroom, because then she might actually have to do something!. and like i said i know they have things to do and "the grass is always greener on the other side", but it can be well, very frustrating. she has been told before that she needs to help with dinner at least. i dont mind if i dont get help doing cares, but when it comes to certain things we do need help. i mean does it really take 3 hours to pass maybe 20 pills, i am 100% about team work and will help anyone with anything, maybe i expect too much from people.i just wanted to know if all med passers are this way? another med passer at this place has a know it all tude as well. she was counting off meds on change of shifts and while talking to the on coming passer she makes a comment"thats the only pen that you have so you better tell your little people to keep there hands off of it" exuse me? i am just a little person? you mighty med passer that does everything?! well of course i do nothing all 8 hours!! arrrrrrrrggg
* please do not take anything personally i am just very frustrated*

Passing meds to 35 people in 2 hours means a pretty tight schedule. I can understand why she doesn't have time to help out just then.
But her attitude? Puh-leeze! lol

It doesn't matter if other med techs are more helpful or have different attitudes. Eventually all of us will find ourselves in the company of people whos behavior we would like to change. And that's what it's all about: knowing how to positively influence other people. I can suggest some literature that has helped me tremendously over the years and is very inexpensive ($7-9), so feel free to pm me as I don't think it would be appropriate to endorse media in open forum. As for the little people comment, come on, laugh it off, that person is terribly insecure. When people make comments like that, find ways to introduce humor. If someone called me a little person I'd firmly say, " Did you just call me little?", and without waiting for an answer I'd cheerfully say, "thank you, yes, my diet is working"
