Critical hint for Medicare MDS 3.0

Specialties MDS

Hey, I just spent way too much time finding out that the magic number of dashes for A2400 (end of medicare stay) is eight!! If your resident is still on medicare at the time of the assessment, you should enter dashes. The new manual reads.... (--------), but that does not work. All dashes (10 of them fit) does not work either. Anyway, I just thought I would share this little hint in case others get tired of the repeated error messages when trying to audit. So, hit the dash button exactly eight times...and smile when it accepts your answer:>)

Also, in 3.0 the MDS coordinator must be the last person to complete the MDS as the computer enters the date you complete it, so give your people deadlines a few days before you actually have to have their info. I set my due dates (for the other sections) at ARD+5, so that it is correct and completed by me by +7. That way I actually have days for emergencies, illnesses, and surprise admits to work with!

Good luck and Cheers!!

Hey where did you get this info? I have been trying to get my administrator/owner to follow this plan. They keep trying to tell me it does not matter what order you follow. Anyone can fill out their sections at any time,so nursing/MDS can go first. I have argued with them until I am hoorifice. It is so frustrating!! We use a huge board in the MDS office that has a months worth of assessment times on it. It does change at times due to our case mix meetings but generally it is updated every wednesday. I have assessments still not completed from the 28th of October due to waiting on others. Last time I said something to the boss I got reamed out for "throwing team mates under the bus" So any help is greatly appreciated!!

The MDS coordinator enters the completed box on the summary screen then presses the audit button. We use Keane care and I have to be logged in to sign the complete date. Then the MDS is locked and ready to submit to EDS. You can email me for more info or I can send you some of our tracking sheets if you want. I developed a two page document to complile all the required info for my sections, and I use it to input all of my info at one time. [email protected] personal or [email protected] for work. Use the hlrc address if you would like a response during the daytime. Good luck! Dori

thanks much for you quick response. will contact you about that document! THANKS AGAIN!!
