Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

Not sure if I’m correct but in the last live session I went to he recommended keeping the addendum to 1 page ?

But.... what if I messed up too much to keep it to 1 page ?

Mine is 2.5 pages. I think you should put a short description of each hobby so admissions can get a better idea of them. Thats what I did. I did not have much travel experience but the places I did go to I put a brief description and made it seem like it was a learning experience as well. 

You upload it on the academic section of the application. Where you listed the schools, click edit and at the bottom it gives you the option to upload the transcripts.

For those who did the video essay, did you do the full 2 minutes and 30 seconds ? Or can you end it before the time is up. Anytime I practice what im gonna say I finish around 2 minutes and 15 seconds thats why loll

There's a button to stop the recording before the time is up.

if I travelled to more than 5 places before should I still list all of them LOL or should I just put that I planned the trip excursions for family and friends without listing any places? also columbia recommended a resume of at least 2 pages right

Dang my CV is like 4 pages long...  LOL. 

 

Also for the video essay mine was just under 2 minutes! I didn't think it was too bad and I appreciated that we had 3 practice attempts where I could view my video!

If you're talking about the timed writing, they asked me something along the lines of "how would you care for a sick friend/relative." My timed writing did not go well imo LOL. But the video portion is the same question for everybody!

Ohhhhh. What was the question again? I thought they asked different questions for everyone?

Hi! I tried to keep mine shorter than my personal statement to emphasize that what I am saying in my personal statement is more reflective of who I am as a candidate over what I am speaking to in my addendum. It's about 500 words.

I don't want to stress you out but I think a really long addendum could be overbearing to an admissions committee that already has to read so many essays. You probably don't need as much detail as you think! Just be earnest and speak to everything that happened and how it impacted your performance, but really specific details usually don't add much value. What helped me a lot was asking myself "Is this an excuse or an explanation?" every time I spoke about something. I also researched law school addendums for tips on condensing and used the free HemingwayEditor app online! I definitely made mine more personable than those examples though. 

I really think you can do it! May as well be honest because I have nothing to lose at this point- but I'm literally addressing failing out of nursing school in my final semester a few years ago due to a myriad of very horrible unexpected things going on in my life and was still able to eventually get it to under two pages. It took me a couple tries to condense it down but after I did I realized my essay was much stronger in the end because of it. Good luck!

I just listed my travel and hobbies because I thought it’s self explanatory. 

If you go to my profile and post history or scroll back a few pages I posted a screenshot of mine a few days ago!
