Published

Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

Hii!

Hope applications are going well! Is it just me or is anyone else just freaking out trying to make all their statements and application perfect?

You’re definitely not the only one !! Im so paranoid and stressed I can’t even imagine how we’ll feel once applications are officially submitted. That waiting game is going to be something else ?

Does anyone happen to know what the average GPA of accepted MDE/DNP students are?

Another random question, is there a specific font we have to use for our essays? I only saw that we need 12 point font, double spaced, and 1 inch margins. But I just want to make sure if there was a specific font that had to be used.

I believe the GPA ranges. From 2.75 to like 3.0. But GPA isn’t a huge factor for acceptance anyway. From past posts, I've seen people say they had very low GPA’s and got accepted! And the font is the general 12 point font, double spaced, and 1 inch margin. So you’re good !

Is general like Times New Roman? or can I use something similar? - sorry I just want to make sure everything is perfect!

I know Columbia is very holistic, but it is also Columbia so I feel like EVERYTHING is so important, you know?

Sorry ! I thought I put Times New Roman. But yes that is the general font they are looking for. And I know how you feel ! I try to make myself calm by thinking about the fact that they take an holistic approach to applications ? because it’s stressful sometimes just overthinking.

Oh and for everyone who was wondering about the resume portion, on how we list our hobbies/interests - they told me that we just list them in bulleted form. So nothing too detailed.

Hi everyone! Thank you for all the advice! I am enrolling in portage right now to get ahead on my prereqs so I have them all done by February and 2 done by January when they ask for updates on grades. Does anyone know of a less expensive way to take microbio? Portage is asking for 800 and thats a lot ... Idt I qualify for financial aid. Also I went to the info session and they told me since I was a public health major not having prereqs done won't count against me too much.

It's getting so close to the deadline!! good luck everyone and thanks again

Hi ! I took it on portage and yes it was a lot unfortunately. They don’t offer financial aid I wish they did. Im not sure if there are other cheaper options to get them done sooner besides portage, from what I know of. And that is a plus that the preqs won’t count against you so you don’t have to worry much. You could probably take those courses at a community college then since they won’t hold it against you. But its always better to play it safe !
