MDE Columbia University 2021

Published

Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

hey guys! Been lurking on this thread for a bit and figured to introduce myself and wish everyone good luck! I applied last year but got denied. I did receive a lot of good feedback on my application which is why I am motivated to reapply. Hoping for the best this coming year.

Thank you and Good luck to you too! and I can definitely share my experience.

Here are my takeaway's from my application process last year:

- don't have too many classes in progress, I had 3 and that reflected negatively on me and made me a less competitive applicant.

- Make sure you address anything that may have arisen during your undergraduate career (be it being on academic probation or taking a break) in your addendum. I took advantage of this essay last year (and will again this year) because my GPA is not high, it's under a 3.0 when I got my bachelor's. This was because my mom passed away right before I started college so my undergrad years were a total mess. I withdrew from school to take a break and I didn't address that in my addendum. I didn't think I needed to as I was addressing why my grades were low so I mainly addressed how I have improved my grades but I was wrong...this made me realize that the review of our applications is very meticulous.

-Do not overthink the timed writing and video essay. This is easier said than done...I freaked out for my timed video and my thoughts were all over the place. You will have the chance to practice before recording your final video. If you still feel nervous even with the practice recordings take a quick minute or two to shake it all off and relax.

-Attend their virtual info sessions if you are able to, ask questions this way they remember you. This paid off last year...despite being denied as the staff remembered me and were very helpful in providing me with feedback on my application. Their admissions staff has by far been the most helpful and friendliest I have encountered.

hope this helps! ❤️

of course! and thank you! ? Good luck to you too! No, I'm applying to about 6 or 7. Last year it was just one of two. As the saying goes, don't put all your eggs in one basket. I definitely recommend you apply to more than 1 or 2 as a backup. I'm in California but I'm mostly applying to a mix of Accelerated BSN programs and Masters programs in the East Coast and a few in Texas (random one I know but there's a purpose behind it!) as its less competitive. I'm choosing locations where I have family that could help provide support as these programs are hard and I can't imagine surviving them without the support of family or relatives.

I’m from LA!! But I’m not applying to any schools in CA since I’ve been here for too long! Thanks for the advice above!

Hi guys! I was just wondering how long it took everyone to finish the timed writing section?

I took the whole 10 minutes. Well 12 minutes if you count the two minutes they give you to think about your response. It's timed, it shows you when you’re typing how much time you have left and once the time is up it immediately exits out the page.

I’m from LA too! Born and raised there until college when I moved up north. I’m currently in the Bay Area / SF. I can also relate, I’ve been in California all my life and I want to explore and venture out of California.

Where are you guys from? I am from Phoenix, AZ!(:

I am applying to the MDE/DNP with the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care speciality. I love geriatrics, my absolute favorite people to care for.

I JUST finished my pre requisites. I just finished retaking BIO 201...

I am from Phoenix too!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if you open the link to complete the timed writing and video interview that you had to do both in one sitting. Or can I open the link and just do the timed writing and then do the video essay at another time.

I am unsure why when I asked that question it posted twice and merged to the above reply. I am asking everyone on this thread LOL! Thank you

Hi everyone, I am currently a senior at UCI applying to the 2021MPE cycle. I have a solid GPA (3.7) and work as a MA but I am worried that because I still have three prerequisites to do (anatomy IP) it will hurt my chances. I am also late to all of this as I just started my application a few weeks ago but I have all three recommenders in place and a lot of writing to do. Do you all sound like amazing candidates and are so inspiring I’m so glad I found this thread!

I am taking anatomy RN at a cc and plan to finish physiology by February and then Microbio by end of may. Should I take physiology and Microbio sooner on portage? Either way it won’t be done by October 15 ? and other schools won’t take portage
