Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
Hi everyone! I just wanted to say good luck with submitting your applications! Though being anxious is sometimes inevitable I believe you all gave all you could in this round. Regardless of the decision, you are on the right path! And all of our journeys to fulfilling our goals may won’t look the same. Good luck with all of your applications and keep checking in with yourself! ??
OK a couple more questions!
Does anyone whose already completed the timed write have any tips or suggestions on how to prepare? I've never done that before for an application and I'm very nervous and want to try practicing or preparing somehow.
Also- for the "Are you interested in the Global Initiatives placement?" on average how much did you all write? Just a sentence? A paragraph?
Same goes for the unemployed longer than four months. I live in NYC and have been unemployed since March due to COVID which I'm hoping will be fairly straightforward to explain (as well as that admissions will be understanding ?).

So for the timed writing I've never done one for an application so this was my first time too. The questions vary for each individual. You just have to do it with a clear and focused mind. Make sure you eat before, and just relax. You’ll have two minutes to think about your answer to the question and then just type for 10 minutes. What ill say is that they look at how well you write and what ideas you come up with in 10 minutes since they know we’ll be under pressure so they just look at structure and ideas. Whether its short or long.
I didn’t do the global initiative placement answer, but I think it’s just a statement about a sentence or two. Nothing too long since they didn’t provide a large space.
For employment, yes they’ll definitely understand. It's the same situation for me I am also in NYC and employment has been pretty slow. So they’ll definitely understand that due to COVID, so no worries.

Whattt not even NYU?
I am from West Coast so I am only applying to one school in NYC. I am applying to 6 other schools and I feel I should apply more. Are you a phlebotomist?

Also, I put in my recommenders emails but they haven't received anything from Columbia. Has this happened to anyone else?
I know mine got the emails. Did they check their spam?

I mean I was thinking about it but IDK I have high hopes for columbia. I may apply there as a backup or this other school Pace University which is a little closer. And yes I am a phlebotomist and also a patient care tech

No question is dumb don’t worry. But yes its same preqs. All we need to take is the preqs that were listed for the MDE requirements. Nothing else for the DNP.

It has happened to me but it’s because the email that they have, doesn’t accept outside emails since its a private corporate email. Make sure the recommenders email can accept outside emails
