Hi all :)
So I was wondering if anyone else in the program was accepted with some coreqs still pending??
I still need to take Microbio, Human growth & Speech :uhoh21:..My plan was to take these courses next summer....but now I am hearing that the program runs straight through the summer??
Suggestions/advice on when (ex: which semester in the program) & how (ex: online/weekend/etc) I should take these courses in order to succesfully graduate from the program would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance :heartbeat

Yes, the nursing program goes right through the summer. You will have to take one of your coreqs during each of your semesters in nursing school in order to graduate with your class. I would recommend doing the hardest one first...like Micro...during your fundamentals of nursing semester. Then do speech during second semester...pairing that easy class with a relatively hard semester. Then human growth and development during your third semster. DEP2000 will go well with your pediatrics and obstetrics classes during third semester.
Good luck!!
So this means that the class entering fresh this fall will grad Dec. of '09??
Thanks for your advice on when to take these classes...do you know of any microbio professor in particular that is "good"?
Thanks :)
Yes, those that start in August...graduate in December of the following year. So, if you are starting this fall in August of 08...you should graduate December of 09.
I took Microbiology lecture and lab from Dr. Okungboa at the North Campus. He was excellent. He posted notes for his lectures online...and his tests were not too hard. AND...to top it all off...I learned a lot...LOL.
Hope this helps.

But the only requisite for the RN program as far as Microbio goes...it is only the lecture that we need to take correct (MCB2010)?? At least that is what I see in my degree audit??
Don't scare me pleaseeee
Sorry...didn't mean to scare you. You only need to take the lecture for the AS program. If you ever decide to pursue a BSN..you will need the lab.
Ohh ok...thanks!!!
I did a quick search for the Microbio lectures and there are only a few left...registered with Clemente Fernandez...he seems to have pretty decent ratings and feedback from students...
Anyways....thanks again :)

Not to threadjack or anything, but...
I'm getting my prereqs out of the way now in hopes of entering the MDC accelerated program in fall of 2009 or spring 2010. I should finish my prereqs and coreqs this spring/summer at Palm Beach Community college... How soon would be too soon to apply? It's ok to apply if you're still waiting on grades from pre-reqs?

Hi, I did Micro with Cinthya Marzuoka Losito at Baptist,,, she is really good. She tells you what to study for the tests. And you don't have to take the final if you do well during the semester. I hope it helps!!!!

Hi sa87,
Congratualations!
I am not in MDC's nursing program, but I took all of my prereqs there and completed my AA in nursing this summer. I will start Barry's accelerated BSN program in Jan. I see that you registered with Clemente Fernandez for Micro, easy "A". I didn't learn much in his class but I learned a lot in my lab. Professor Fernandez is a really nice person, just get to class on time, pay attention and do all the extra credit he gives. I did all of his extra credit except for the community service learning and I was exempt from his final. All of his test are straight from the book. Also I see that you have to take Human Growth & Development and Speech, I would highly recommend taking them online since you are in the nursing program already. For Human Growth, I recommend Mildred Roqueta and for Speech I recommend Teresa Albury. I had both professors and they were awesome; I received A's in both classes.
If I could be of any help don't hesitate to ask!
Good Luck!

Akspudus we took the same Microbiology professor, but I found his first three exams to be very difficult. I guess because I did it with the first semester of nursing. I highly recommend for all the pre-reqs to be finished before starting the nursing program. Especially micro. Some people are doing it with Med Surg now, I could not imagine doing that. I was having a very difficult time going from one class to the other, because one was in the North and then the other was in the Medical. Then ALL the test were paired up. I was going insane.
I am soooo happy about this semester. Just bought my Med Surg and Pharm book, and I have a BUNCH of study guides. I know this is going to be a killer semester, so I am trying my best to get prepared. I enjoyed my vacation, but I could always use more.
