McKenzie's funeral

Published

We attended the funeral today for McKenzie. Over two hundred people came to show their love for this family. They had a wonderful video duing the service that started with her parents in a picture holding a positive pregnancy test with big grins on their faces! The video went all through the pregnancy, newborn pics from the hospital nursery, toddler years to just two weeks ago. The friend that put this together did such a heartfelt job. McKenzie loved sunflowers. Everyone was given one upon entering the church. Her little friends all wore staw hats with sunflowers and read from the bible. Many of the nurses and doctors who took care of her in the last year came to the service. For those of you who work in pediatric oncology...I salute you. I personally know I do not have the strength to do this on a daily basis.

The graveside service was short and simple. Her parents thanked everyone for being a part of McKenzie's life. They even had her dogs at the service!

At the conclusion we all walked by the casket and layed sunflowers on it.

Then butterflies were released. It was an incredible celebration of her short life.

Thanks to everyone who wrote such nice things when I posted about the death of McKenzie on thursday. This family appreciates your prayers and thoughts more than you know. And this member of allnurses is proud to be a part of such a caring group of people. What wonderful hearts you all have.:heartbeat:redpinkhe:heartbeat

What a fitting tribute to a precious child...........I am weeping as I type this, the description is so beautiful. The funeral must have been incredibly difficult to get through, for you as well as the family, but it's plain that this little girl was adored by all, and thankfully love gives us the strength and courage to face these things.

My prayers continue for you and for McKenzie's family.

Shelly, you wrote about the service just beautifully; I can envision the people, the music, the flowers, the pups, the butterflies... everything. What a wonderful tribute to that sweet little girl. Thank you for sharing this with us. I'll continue to pray for the parents and for all who loved this little girl. Hugs to you, my friend.

If there were any previous posts about this child, I missed them, but it sounds like this was a wonderful memorial. I never heard of dogs attending any portion of a funeral; it sounds like the parents were really creative by having everything that was important and represented this child was incorporated into the service. If there is a thread that was about this child, can I have the link to learn about him? Very nice and sorry for your loss.

Just read some of it, and I am sorry to hear about this. I know the family does not know us, but please tell her that allnurses sends their heartfelt sympathy. I can only imagine how they feel. I love my son to literal pieces, I could not imagine him suffering.:heartbeat

Shelly,

That sounds so special and beautiful and as I said before your post has touched my life. As a busy single mom with two nursing jobs I get tired and stressed. I will remember to love and appreciate my daughter and the blessing of her life. Thank you for sharing the life of Mckenzie

Sounds very sweet and very pretty. It sounds fitting for a beautiful little angel on earth.
