MCC Penn Valley ADN...What to Expect

Published

Hi,

Wondering if anyone who is currently in the Penn Valley ADN program (or who has recently been in) would give me some ideas about what to expect?

I will be applying Aug 2015 for Jan 2016 start and am very confident I will be getting in with a 3.8 GPA on prereq's, an A in microbiology, and an 84% on the TEAS.

Here are my questions:

What supplies I will need, like stethoscope, color shoes, or anything else?

When are orientations typically held for those admitted?

Are you given a textbook list prior to the first day of class?

I am a planner and would love to know as much about the program as possible prior to starting. Any tidbits of knowledge from your experience would be greatly appreciated.

I am also wondering if anyone knows anything about any upcoming changes? I was told over the phone that the program is changing and the website says "under construction".

Thanks for your help, love this site! I have already learned a ton.

The program is going through some changes of leadership now, so my experience may not be the same for you. You will need a stethoscope, pen light, black or white shoes, black scrub bottoms, and something to hold your id on your shirt. They say you need a lab jacket and a program patch, but no one in my class or the classes before and after us have ever used either, so that was a waste of money for us. They do give you a large list of books before class starts. I'd wait to buy those. The books that we've actually used are the fundamentals book, the med surge book, and a drug book. Linda will mark in your skills book too. The books have changed, so I'm not sure what books you will have.

Will need a stethoscope, pen light, bandage dicots, black pen, black scrub pants, black or white shoes and socks, scrub top ordered (and paid for) at orientation, and a name badge clip.

We did get told what books we need at orientation. For a Jan start orientation was Dec 15th. Text books listed in school book store were not complete, but that may be because there is new management in the bookstore.

I didn't do the lab coat either.

Yes, DON of nursing resigned. Interim in place now. No idea about any other changes coming.

Excited to start in 1 week! 🤗

Basically you'll need what everyone stated above.

In addition, there are a lot of changes going on. Personally, I didn't buy the med-surg textbook until 2nd semester and never opened it till 3rd and still didn't really use it until the 4th and used it for the first month or so of class as that book goes into so much detail.

But that's just a personal perspective and use it with caution as a lot of things have changed since I've graduated already.
