Hey, everyone. I know it's pretty early, but I have had my eye on the Mayo Clinic Nurse Residency program in Arizona for a while. I will be graduating in December and plan on applying to their February 2022 cohort. I have seen other threads from previous cohorts that keep up with the process, information, and support each other along the way.
If you are interested in applying to this program, this thread is for you!
About me: I am from out of state, which is why I am pretty anxious to hear more information on the program. I would love to do critical care. I have not seen the residency program posted on the job board yet, so hopefully, we can keep each other updated.
Good luck to all of you!
I think that receiving an offer from Mayo is such a huge accomplishment in itself, especially how competitive it is to get in as a new grad (for the phoenix location at least). Mayo only wants the best of the best. I believe that the sky is the limit after having worked at a presteige location like "Mayo".
They have a one of kind onboarding for new nurses that is one year long instead of throwing you into the wolves after 3 months of orientation at Banner. Banner has unsafe ratios, I did cardiac PCU clinicals at banner and she had 6 patients. My friend that started at banner PCU as a new grad became a charge nurse in 9 months (and didn't pay her as "charge nurse").... which means new grads teaching new grads...
I would say mayo is very *plush* meaning workload is reduced, patient care/safety is better, and pay is better. Plus nights is $6 more which is nice. You will ease into becoming an independent nurse, instead of learning on the fly.
I accepted the offer! My only concern now is passing NCLEX and getting my license. Also, I would appreciate advice from anyone coming out of state. I applied for a GA license, and I am planning to transfer it to AZ as soon as I get it. Does anyone have any idea how long that could take? I was told by Mayo HR that I need to have an AZ license. No temporary or compact license. Now I am nervous that I might not get the AZ license on time.
Congratulations! I think we are all worried about that but if we put in the work, we will continue to do great on the NCLEX. I just passed my ATI exit exam today with flying colors. It gave me a 99% prediction of passing NCLEX, so I hope that is true!
transferring your license shouldn’t take too long! Have you turned in all your paper work to your states BON? Arizona moves pretty fast so once you test & pass the process should be easy! I am wondering why they don’t accept a compact license?
what are you guys planning on doing for studying on the NCLEX? There are so many resources. I was thinking UWorld!
Yes same here! My school is sending the affidavit this week so I should be able to schedule my exam by the end of this month. The pressure is definitely on knowing we have to pass by the first try basically to keep our positions in the residency program.
I just bought UWorld a few minutes ago and I plan on watching Mark Klimek’s lectures on Youtube as well.

Congratulations on accepting your offer ? during my externship in nursing school I was night shift in the trauma ICU. Nights actually aren’t too bad! The managers will typically schedule your days back to back so that your sleep schedule doesn’t get disturbed. For more found it best on day 1 to wake up at my regular time, run errands etc then take a nap from like 12-5 before my shift started and then days 2&3 I would be tired enough after my shift to sleep during the day. Day 3 I wouldn’t sleep all day though so your days off don’t get messed up! It was tough for me because I did this in school. It will be much better when you’re just working, plus you get a shift differential which is nice ?
I accepted my offer this morning. Working nights on a unit that wasn’t my preference will be tough, but I always knew I wanted to work at Mayo and I’m so happy I get the opportunity to do so. Now I have pass my finals tomorrow ?? and start studying for the NCLEX. I will be using UWorld and prob Mark K.
