Mayo Clinic Nurse Residency (Az) February 2022

Published

Hey, everyone. I know it's pretty early, but I have had my eye on the Mayo Clinic Nurse Residency program in Arizona for a while. I will be graduating in December and plan on applying to their February 2022 cohort. I have seen other threads from previous cohorts that keep up with the process, information, and support each other along the way.

If you are interested in applying to this program, this thread is for you!

About me: I am from out of state, which is why I am pretty anxious to hear more information on the program. I would love to do critical care. I have not seen the residency program posted on the job board yet, so hopefully, we can keep each other updated.

Good luck to all of you!

Awesome! What unit are you?

PCU! 3C I believe (I was so excited I might not be remembering the number correctly but I’m fairly certain it’s 3C, definitely PCU though).

Ayyyy Me too! I don’t remember the floor but know it’s PCU. Congrats

I interviewed for PCU & ICU. I told them I preferred days and they said only night shift was available in ICU so I may be joining you guys in PCU ? the pay is alot higher than day shift at other hospitals in the area !

I am getting my license in my current state, and then I will apply for AZ license. During my interview they said that the process for AZ license needs to be started at least when starting the job. If anyone knows anything about applying for AZ license after having an out of state license, please let me know what the process is like.

She said you can start the process before so by February everything is complete. https://azbn.boardsofnursing.org/azbn

I received an offer for Medsurg. Anyone else in Medsurg?

I will be on 3C nights. Has anyone done their clinicals on that floor and can speak to what the culture is like on that unit and how critical the patients are?

Also, have any of you done nights before and can tell me how to adjust/prepare or the routine to fit life in LOL?

I've been to almost each floor (5C, 4C, 2C, PPPU) except that one! And each experience was incredible, so I'm sure that 3C will be the same.

Do you know anything about 7E? That's what I was offered. My only thing is that I I have worked as a tech in Medsurg, and it's not my preferred unit. Also, I would prefer to work day shift, but this position is for night shift. So hard to make a decision...

I can't remember if that's hospice and palliative care or not. The nurse to patient ratio was 1:4. What other job offers do you have?

The recruiter said that it's Medsurg palliative. My other offer is at Banner in PCU.

Do you have the contact for the HR? I would ask:

1. Is there any way it can be in another department?

2. If not, how long would it take until there is a chance to be moved to the day shift?

Mayo is hard to get into, it has good pay and GOOD ratios. I appreciate that they have devices to lift patients so nurses don't have to hurt their back (or at least PCU has them). My suggestion would be to get your foot in the door and start from there. Good luck with the decision!
