Mayo Clinic Nurse Residency (Az) February 2022

Published

Hey, everyone. I know it's pretty early, but I have had my eye on the Mayo Clinic Nurse Residency program in Arizona for a while. I will be graduating in December and plan on applying to their February 2022 cohort. I have seen other threads from previous cohorts that keep up with the process, information, and support each other along the way.

If you are interested in applying to this program, this thread is for you!

About me: I am from out of state, which is why I am pretty anxious to hear more information on the program. I would love to do critical care. I have not seen the residency program posted on the job board yet, so hopefully, we can keep each other updated.

Good luck to all of you!

Those of you who had clinicals or externships at Mayo, what color scrubs do the nurses wear?

Nurses wear navy blue

Awesome! Thank you!

Thanks for clarifying! That’s what I thought but I few comment on here made me question. We can all focus on exit and NCLEX in peace.

Good luck on your HESI and NCLEX!

If you haven’t reserved a day and place for your NCLEX, please do so quick as they fill up fast.

I reserved a testing spot and then made a study schedule according to that date. If you wait until you feel ready and THEN reserve, that’s no good.

Spots were booked up to 2 months in my state, I had to travel to the next state to take mine. Hope you all will do great ?

Hi everyone, it's been a minute since I've been on here. First I want to say congratulations to everyone who have received calls and offers. I also received a phone call this morning from the nursing placement office saying HR would be in touch in a week or two with an offer. How exciting for all of us!! I'm not trying to celebrate or get too excited until I receive the official offer call, but I'm still smiling from ear-to-ear. Again, congratulations everyone!! I'm looking forward to working with you.

Do any of you know anyone working at Mayo and how the culture is?

I worked there for the Summer externship. I've never worked in any hospital setting before so I can't compare it, but I really enjoyed the experience ?

One thing that stood out to me was everything seemed team-based. It wasn't an "I only take care of my patient" type of attitude, but nurses were answering each other's call-lights. One patient had an accident involving the bladder when walking around the unit. Several nurses helped to clean along with a respiratory therapist who happened to be there. I thought that was so sweet ❤️. They could've let the main nurse handle the job, but they cleaned it together. The RT could've walked away since this probably wasn't part of her job description, but she stayed to help ?

So based on that I think it's a positive culture, at least in my experience ?

Thank you for sharing! It sounds like a good environment! A situation like the one you described would definitely be handled differently where I currently work as a PCT.

Yea sure ? oh, but know that Mayo (or at least my department) doesn’t have CNA’s and only 1-2 PCT’s covering multiple units in one floor. However the nurse:patient ratios are low, so it’s manageable to do things like helping with ADLs and hygiene.

I honestly prefer that, it gives an opportunity for you to talk more to your patients ? I think patients would like that too, makes it less lonely for them.
