Nov 3, 201510 yr How did you set it up? I prefer to use dimensional analysis:75 ml/hr x 20 mEq KCl/1000 mL = ?? mEq KCl/ hr. The insulin problem is similar:100 units insulin/ 500 mL x 30 mL/hr= ?? units insulin/ hr
Nov 3, 201510 yr Another way to look at it is that if this first patient had these fluids at 75cc/hr, how many hours would it take for the entire liter to infuse? Doing math, you should come up with 13.3 hrs. then divide this amount into 20 to get your answer to how many mEq are infusing per hour. (20/13.3)
