I need help on Teaching Topics for my Maternal/Newborn class. Any good topics you would recommend. Thank you!

  • Comfort Measures during labor
  • Normal Growth & Development up to a year
  • Breast/Bottle Feeding
  • Umbilical Cord Care
  • Diapering
  • Swaddling
  • Circumcision Care
  • Jaundice
  • Bathing

You can also include postpartum care (what to expect and comfort care) - lochia, breast engorgement, perineum/episiotomy, cramping, uterus (how long will it take to shrink to prepregnancy size), pp blues vs. depression, bladder, and bowels.

You can also talk about danger signs to look out for like DVT, pp hemorrhage, mastitis, etc.

SIDS - Recommended Newborn Positioning, could be another one.

Breastfeeding, NOT circumcising, normal newborn care such as bathing/diapering, how to incorporate a sibling into caring for a newborn. Good luck!
