Salaries??

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi all!

I am a new nursing grad and I recently interviewed at Beth Israel. They have offered me a job, however, I'm a little concerned about the fact that the nurses there are salaried. I don't see how it's possible to be salaried as a nurse - I don't know one nurse that doesn't work overtime on a regular basis. Does anybody have any experience with this??

Thanks!

The VA Hospital in Brockton is salaried for nurses. They start at about $45.000 per for a new RN. Is that simular to what you were offered?

That's exactly what I was offered. But they didn't explain to me about holidays - do you still get holiday pay if you're salaried? And how does overtime work? None of the nurses I work with ever get out on time. I was told you have to work 4 hours to get overtime. So if I'm consistently working 1 hour overtime every time I work I wouldn't be getting paid for that. Do you know how that works?

Unfortunately I dont. It seems like if you are salaried, than you can get screwed that way (in reference to overtime). Have you been offered employment anywhere else?. How is the job market?

I interviewed at Brigham & Women's a couple months ago, and it sounded like I would be offered the job since the manager of the floor had me talk to HR. However, they haven't called me back about it, and every time I call them they don't return my calls. They may just be waiting until March, since I'm not taking my boards until Feb. But it's making me nervous. Mass General also called me about a job and haven't called back. I know the job market is pretty open right now; if you look at the Boston Sunday Globe there are tons of nursing positions and open houses listed.

What school did you attend? ADN or BSN.

Actually. . . At $45.00/hour, I get $93,000/year if one works 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, 52 week per year!

$93,000/year! Sweet! But I bet the cost of living eats into a lot of the money! :o
