hello all!! i am interested in applying to the practical nursing progam at necc for the fall 2010 semester. i was wondering if anyone is in the program right now or has already gone through it. how difficult was it to get into? i've heard some things about the nursing (adn) program that made me a little nervous. like only looking at high gpa's and test scores. any advice, suggestions, or insight would be greatly appreciated :D

The PN program definately seems to be easier to get into. One of the reasons may be because there are a lot less applicants for PN. I am not sure what you have heard about the ADN program but it is probably true if it was regarding being nearly impossible to get in (especially the first time applying).

I am currently a 1st year ADN student but I had been waitlisted and I have a 4.0 gpa! A friend of mine is in the PN program and her gpa was around a 3.6, I believe. What I have heard is a lot of students go the PN route and then do the bridge to ADN after working for a year.

The funny thing is that they have revamped the program and the 1st year PN and the 1st year ADN have EXACTLY the same curriculum this semester (with the exception of the LPN text that they have). However, my friend has a 24 hour week whereas I have a 17 so it doesn't seem to be any less difficult. In fact right now it seems to be MORE difficult. At some point that will probably change but...

Good luck with applying! :)

Thanks for replying! YYea I've heard that people have been on that waiting list for years....which I know is true for a lot of other ADN programs. Yea that is crazy that the first year curriculum is the same for both of the programs. I will definitely apply for the PN program for Fall 2010 and see what happens. I am also applying for Greater Lowell Tech's PN program. How long were you on the waiting list before you got in?? Thanks again for your insight it really is appreciated.:coollook:

NECC only accepts about 10 people for the waitlist for a given year. So if you are waitlisted but you don't get called you are guarenteed acceptance for the following year. I applied for 2009 and was waitlisted but was called off when someone dropped out. Had I not been called I would have been starting in 2010. If you don't get accepted or waitlisted you have to do the whole application process over again the following year. That includes retaking the TEAS which are only good for one year. I have heard the Greater Lowell Tech's program is good and I think the requirements for admission are a little less intense. Good luck!

hello,

i am not sure about the pn program but i applied in 2008 for the adn program and didn't get in. i applied again for 2009 and got waitlisted.. so i will be starting in 2010. i am not sure how they pick the applicants but i heard it's a diverse group of students..good luck with everything.

Hi rnin11 how is the program going so far? Good luck. I am looking forward to starting in 2010.

The program seems doable right now. We are starting slow, which is nice. There is a lot of reading and right now I am up to speed but I started reading before classes started. The instructors all seem really patient and are very helpful. We start clinical next week but we go to a LTC facility for two weeks first then go to a hospital. I am sure that in the next few weeks things will pick up but for now I am feeling pretty good. I am sure that I will eat those words though! Good luck next year! :D
