Hello,

My family and I will be moving to Boston at the end of Summer 2022. We are unsure of where we are living so I am looking for advice on Boston hospitals as well as hospitals north and south of Boston.

I have 6 years of ICU experience (Neuro and Trauma at Level 1s). Is it hard to find positions? Should I look into travel assignments to get a feel for hospitals or jump right into a permanent position? I also have my MSN in nursing education so are there any good nursing schools to affiliate with for adjunct positions? How is the pay in Boston versus outer neighborhoods?

Any helpful information is appreciated! Thanks!

	Hi everyone! ?

I'm considering applying to Cape Cod Community College's nursing program, specifically the evening program option. I'd love to hear from recent graduates or current students about their experiences (no matter day or evening program).

	I'm particularly interested in:

Schedule - how many days a week did you meet? For how many hours?

Overall program quality - How well did the program prepare you for the NCLEX and real-world nursing?

Evening program logistics - How manageable was the schedule? Did you feel like you received the same quality education as day students?

Clinical experiences - How were the clinical rotations? Which hospitals/facilities did you work at? Were the clinical instructors supportive?

Faculty and support - How accessible were the instructors? Was there good academic support available?

Job placement - How easy was it to find employment after graduation that didn't pay peanuts?

Any insights, pros/cons, or advice would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Hi all! I'm currently attending an RN-BSN program in MA. One of my courses regards Pharmacology. We have the option to either pay to take a pharm class or pay to take a challenge exam to earn the credit for pharmacology. I would rather pay under $100 for an exam than over $1,000 for a semester. I have been trying to find ways of studying for this exam online. Apparently there are no official study guides from the NLN (or other book companies). The study guides I do find are unofficial ones posted on StuDocu or similar sites.

I'm just curious to know if anyone has had to take this challenge exam? If so, how did you study/prepare for it? I only want help/guidance, no test questions/answers and no spamming of shady websites asking for money for study guides or test answers. Any and all information is greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance! (I did post this to the student forum on here back in November in the ADN/BSN section with no results, unfortunately.)

Hi everyone! I worked as a clinical associate (CA) at Beverly Hospital in Beverly, Massachusetts, on a cardiac telemetry floor for about a year. As a nursing student at Endicott College, I saw this as a great opportunity to strengthen my fundamental skills. I really enjoyed my experience and would love to answer any questions about Beverly Hospital. Please feel free to ask!

I live in California and I'm having a very hard time deciding which program would be a better match. Due to the very small time frame the schools give to decide, I will not be able to visit before the deadlines. I was wondering if anybody in Women's Health at either school could describe the programs from a more personal experience? I know that each has their pros and cons, like BC's lack of a Bachelors Degree, farther from city center, but faster and less expensive/ MGH being more expensive, much longer in time frame, but closer to the city center? I would still love the city feel, but it seems that I'm deciding between a suburb with many undergrads or a very industrialized commercial location-- nothing that's actually in the heart of the city.

Does the 21 month BC program prepare you readily for being an NP? And would going for the dual degree at MGH increase my chances of finding a job afterwards?

I'm just wondering if MGH is worth the 115,000, or if it will hinder job finding chances later to not be awarded a BS in Nursing from BC before the Masters?

Any insight would be amazing, since both schools seems to be almost complete opposites of each other in every pro and con.

Thank you!

Brigham and Women's Hospital

Hi all,

Still job searching and actually applied to a position at Brigham and Women's last week.

Hi! I hope I'm putting this in the right place, but I've been wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. I'm trying to apply for RN by exam, and I had to consent to the Adam Walsh background check. More than 10 years ago DCF got involved with my family because my (now) ex-husband assaulted my infant, apparently a couple times. It was completely unknown to me, as I was at work when it happened, but she appeared sick, so I was bringing her to her pediatrician and the ER several times; it was only after my ex said she fell off the bed, that the ER finally did a CT, and found subdural hematomas. Very obviously, DCF got involved, initially took custody (I got custody back at the 72 hour hearing, after my ex confessed and I filed for separation). Because it took so long for him to confess, DCF treated us both as perpetrators and supported the Care and Protection. He was ultimately charged and convicted of his crimes, and my child is doing really great these days with no residuals (thank god!!!).

Any way... apparently my name came up on the DCF registry as being part of a protective services case, and now my application for licensure by exam is under review. With Good Moral Character, there is a list of items that the Board wants, but there is absolutely no information for individuals who show up on the Registry but have no criminal history. Does anyone know how long the review will take, or what they might want for documentation? I'm trying to pace myself studying for the NCLEX, and wonder if they will even let me? (I assume I'm listed as "neglectful" for "failing to keep the child safe", which I already feel sooo much guilt for, even though I was at work when it happened.) As additional info, I do currently work with children, and my history has never been a problem...

	Hello,

I am a nurse with 12 years of experience who just graduated with my NP. I am applying for jobs now and have a question about the steps at Brigham and women's. Since I am transitioning to the NP role away from bedside, do I need to start over at step 1? This would of course be a pay decrease. Thanks for any insight.

	Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for advise on how to approach this current situation about getting a complaint reported to me to the Board of Nursing. So here is what got me this complaint: I work as a hospice nurse case manager. I was assigned an admission visit at a patient's home and so I called him to schedule a time but he flat out refused and said that he's fine and doesn't want to be seen. I called his daughter and let her know the situation and that I needed info for the admission which she was willing to help provide as much info as she can but a physical visit will be schedule in the next few days to follow up with him. I also added that if anything were to happen or have any other concerns to call us right away. My day continued and had other visits to be done but this particular visit documentation I didn't finish until the end of the day. My mistake was that I forgot to call the office to update them that patient refused a visit and I failed to document it. Before I had a chance to fix it, the employer found out about the documentation discrepancy and terminated me. the patient was unharmed, no med errors happened, and my mistake was failing to update the office about the visit and didn't document. The time between the incident and to when I was terminated was around 2 business days and one of those days I was on PTO. the agency company was the one who actually filed the complaint not the company I was actually working with.

Now I have a letter stating that they need my written description of what happened and other information like current resume, CEU's, job description, and other info. It also says that If I were to get a lawyer that I need to notify them within 10 business and If I were to pursue this on my own that I have 21 days to submit everything. So, has anyone else been in a similar situation and how have you handled? Do I need a lawyer? how do I write my side of the story without incriminating me? It has been 2 months since this happened to there are things I honestly have forgotten about that patient. I know I made a mistake with documentation but I'm honestly afraid of what might happen to my license. Help!!

Hello all, I am new to this forum. I was a stay at home mother, I went back to school and got my RN in a rural area of Western Massachusetts. My first job was at a SNF/subacute facility where I did not receive training, just orientation. I was frightened that I had 15+ patients in the subacute (and more in the SNF area) so I left and went to work at a For Profit Drug and Alcohol Detox. I left there because they were not in compliance with state requirements regarding medication storage, narcotic storage, etc. I went to another SNF/Subacute where again I feel the nurse to patient ratio is unsafe. I am interviewing with a hospital, and their HR assures me that their nurses have a ratio of 1 nurse to 5 to 6 patients on med/surg. HR states I can be trained and oriented for months, as long as I am progressing and until I am comfortable in my role.

Does this sound like a good opportunity, and can I believe HR as to ratios? I know we are all impacted by COVID, but my fear is that I will be attempting to manage as many as 8 patients (given admissions from ER, etc.) I am also afraid because, by erring and choosing to start at SNFs, I have never had proper hospital training. I have had my license for 5 years but feel that I am nowhere near hospital nurse experience and knowledge. I was not ever educated as to Scope of Practice (in college or on the job), or to reporting Neglect or Abuse to the state, merely that I was a "mandatory reporter." I am educating myself as no one has ever had the time or inclination to train me or educate me properly. I just want to be the best nurse possible, take great care of patients, and know what to do in cases of abuse/neglect/bad staffing/etc.

Thank you for all your input.

Hi! I'm a Boston based pre-nursing student. I've been taking pre/co-requisite courses for the past year and I'm finally applying to schools to get my associate's in nursing (RN). I hope to go for my BSN later on while working. I'm deciding between MassBay CC and Lawrence Memorial/ Regis College. Choosing the public school seems like the move financially but the private school seems to offer me the option to get closer to my BSN quicker. If anyone has graduated from either of these programs or has any insight into choosing public vs private education I would love to hear from you!
