95% of the classes there are during the day. Pharm, which you take your first semester, was 6-9 Monday nights, but this semester I heard it's 5-8 Monday night. I know one girl who's taking a 5 pm class this semester, but it was just one section among many that were available. I take that class at 2 pm.

The first semester you'll be there 4 or 5 days a week ending between 12 and 5 each day, except for Monday when you have Pharm. Second semester varies a bit more, depending on what clinicals you take. I'm taking OB/Peds and Psych clinicals right now. Psych is a 9 hour clinical once a week, and OB and Peds (taken for 1/2 semester each) are either two 7-hour days or one 12-hour day each week plus lecture time.

There are lots of parents in the program, single and married. PM me if you want more info.

do you start clinicals in your first semester? my orientation packet thingy said that we need our uniforms for the second semseter so this makes me think clinicals aren't until later.

how easy is it to skip a day of school? i never miss class but i already know that i will have to skip a monday morning in september due to a family member's out of state wedding.

did you buy your stethoscope online or thru a store they recommended?

It has been awhile since anyone has posted a response. Well, I'm new here (to allnurses and Maryland). I applied to UMAB (what is it really, UMB, UMAB  ) in the beginning of January and found out I had been accepted in March for Fall 04. So I suppose you guys already know if you've been accepted. I chose UMB b/c of cost. Johns Hopkins I'm sure is an excellent school, but the tuition was just too high. Also, somewhere on here someone mentioned grants. I do know that if you already have a bachelor's you are no longer qualified to receive the Pell grant. But UMB does offer the merit scholarship. Please post if you got in for Fall 04. It would be nice to gripe about parking with someone who is going to be experiencing the same difficulty.

Does anyone know anything about the UMD-Shadygrove's Nursing Program? Do they follow the exact same standards as UMD?:balloons:

Clinicals don't start until second semester, but you should probably order your uniforms ahead of time b/c the uniform guy is notoriosly unorganized.

You can skip a class or two. Many people did. Also you probably won't have class Monday morning unless you schedule one of your labs then. Unless they change things, you'll only have one class Monday, and that's at night.

I bought my stethescope through Redding Medical and they sent me a free student kit with bandage scissors, penlight, etc.

I think Shady Grove has the exact same curriculum.

Regarding parking wilsonmd, I'd much rather park at UMB than at Hopkins! It's really expensive at Hopkins, and at UMB it's only $4 a day. Depending on where you live, you can also take the Metro or Light Rail to school, which is what I did last semester.

Good luck everyone starting this Fall! Hope to see you around@!@!

does anyone know of schools in maryland, specifically in the metro area that would let a second degree student in with average grades while obtaining a first degree. I am really anxious about this.

Thanks for the recomendations!

I would try for them all. Maryland, Towson U, Notre Dame, Villa Julie, Coppin--all have BSN programs. I hope I'm not leaving any out, if so I'm sure everyone else will add. The only difference with a lot of the programs is the price. I think VJC and ND are a little more pricey. UMD and Towson are more affordable and Coppin I'm not sure about you'll have to look at their website. There are actually a ton of options in Maryland, but I would apply to UMD anyway if it is your first choice, you never know until you try.--you also need to find out the prereqs for all of these...I think they are all different, give or take a couple of courses.

Good luck :)

I didn't know until recently either. It's part of their accelerated college program.

Hmmm...can't help you there, sorry. If it's not in Baltimore, you can bet I haven't heard of it and don't know where it is! Maybe someone else will know...

are you trying to do a BSN or ADN program? you probably want BSN since you already are obtaining a degree. I'm taking classes at Montgomery College and they have a nursing program that's pretty good.

that's the maryland board of nursing website, which has links to all approved nursing programs in the state of Maryland.
