U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Howdy. Have a valid RN licence in Virginia....been out of nursing for a bit and moving to Maryland, but still close to the DC Area. Can anyone recommend a RN refresher class? And what should one be looking for in a refresher class? TY in advance

Hi Flames9_RN,

I am looking into AACCs program for next year. (I am in AA county) I am inactive and have been 20 years. Its going to be a long hard road to *refresh*, I think!

How is the program as far as testing goes? Suggestions what to study ahead of time?

Thank-you, Jeanne

Howdy. Its a course meant to help you succeed and def not fail one. 1 has 2 options for the theory portion, either in a classroom or online. I did it online. I have no clue what the classroom people do.

I do believe if you go to the classroom, its shorter....the online seemed to be longer in duration, not sure why that was the case

For us online people, it was very straight forward. There were exams, and yes they were done in the comfort of your home. As well 1 had care plans to do, very basic. Yes there is a drug dosage exam as well. I do not think they were timed, so 1 has a lots of time to do the exams.

Hospital portion: Took place on Sat/Sun over 4 weekends on a Med/Surg floor. Our Prof was great.

Nothing really to study ahead of time.

Thank you for responding so quickly!

Did you registered for both online Theory and Clinical at the same time?

I see you don't have to have all the steps done before Theory if you do it online.

I do not think 1 has to sign up for clinical right away....the lady you will be in contact with, is great. I will PM her name. She can probably answer ur questions better. I was on the first online class they offered, so I am guessing they have made some changes.

Yep you need 15 posts to PM... Thank you again for answering! Guess I should post more!

I am a SAHM of 4. Quit after having #4! I have homeschooled all four and the last graduated two years ago. He is home on leave from the Army and just graduated Combat Medic training. He is looking to pursue his RN eventually. The other day he reminded me that I had said when they all were out of the house that I would go back into nursing!

So, I am just starting to look into what I need to do, but so appreciate hearing from you about the *particulars*!

I am somewhat techie ( my older son and son-in-law both in IT jobs help keep me up to date) and think I will do okay with the electronic charting.

Trying to decide whether to try online or go to the classes.

Thanks for the PM!

If you don't mind me asking, did you do both Online Theory and Clinical in the same semester?

I think I started the online theory portion in March. It finished in June....And the Clinical portion started sometime in July...1 weekend at the school lab....and 4 weekends at the hospital
