Moving to MD with an Associates and three yrs LTC experience...Job Market?

Hello there,

I realize I have two dings against me in regards to scoring an acute care job. I have enrolled in a BSN program, which I will make sure to write in my resume. I have been working at a reasonably high skilled LTC center. I really hope to break into acute care with our move. Anyone have any clue how the job market looks for non -BSN LTC experience?

I did the same thing back in 2010. I moved to Baltimore with a brand new ADN and only experience as an LPN in LTC/skilled care. I worked for a year as an RN with a Genesis facility (SNF) and then got a job in a city hospital on an Ortho/med surg floor while enrolled in an online RN-BSN. A year after that I transferred to the ICU in the same hospital. Just keep applying! I did take my first SNF job in Bmore because I didn't get any responses after scores of apps for hospital positions after having just earned my RN. Keep applying!

I am planning on moving to Baltimore June or July of 2014 as a new ADN graduate with no experience. I am just wondering if there will be any RN opportunities for me. I plan on enrolling in a BSN program right away and am willing to work pretty much any RN position until I have experience and my BSN and then I can have some leverage to get me where I really want to be. Any tips/advice would be extremely appreciated. Also, I was wondering what is a SNF position??

I think it is ok especially since your are in a BSN program and have some experience. Look into the smaller community hospitals that are not (yet) magnet.
