Don't want license to expire!

  1. Hi! I recently left my job working at a hospital in Feb 2017. My goal was to take a break for a few months and then start back up another kind of nursing (about to send out applications). I want to make sure my next job fits my family (we have an 8 month old). Say if I land another job by the end of the year will my lincense still be active? I have worked part time (24 hr/week) for the past almost 3 years and full time for the 2 years prior. Also was out on fmla for 3 months after having my son last summer. Thank you!!

I am not understanding your question. Your nursing license expires every two years regardless of your working/not working. You have been licensed for 5 yrs (part-time for 3 yrs and FT for 2 yrs). Have you ever renewed your license?

Thanks for your response. I was just concerned that me not working for a period of time would affect renewing my license. Yes, I have renewed my license since becoming a RN. Sorry....I've just never taken a break from working so I was just wasn't sure how it all worked and started to worry that I would lose my license if I didn't work for a period of time! I was trying to find info about it on MBON, but couldn't find the info. Again thank you!

If you think about it. There are thousands of travel nurses that hold licenses in many states. It would be a major headache if the BONs start cancelling their licenses in those states if they don't work in their state for 3-6 months. You can retire and keep renewing your license every two years for the next 30 yrs if you want to spend the money.

When the time comes to renew ur license in MD, it does ask if u have worked 500 (or is 1000 hours) thats it....In some states u have to have so may CEUs as well, but not in MD. GL
