Yes finally got into a accelerated BSN program another male to join the ranks of nursing :-P.

Some questions I have are...

1) what can i do in the spare 2 months I have to be ready? Like any books I can pick up and read on my spare time or any guides. (like for care plans? or drugs?)

2. Shoes? Ive read LONG threads with Dansakos/Zcoils but i just cant seem the grasp the idea of wearing those shoes.. Will i even need them for nursing school or is that just when the real job starts? imo im more of a nike shox or a new balance person

3. Just random stuff you think i should know..

Reading these threads on the male forums crack me up sometimes but i'm pretty sure im going to have to deal with all of it haha so it provides some helpful answers/solutions.

1. 2 months prior I think med term review would be great (unless you have had a formal course..) it should make the uptake of info a bit easier.

2. alt to those is Crocs...or standard running shoes...

I would pick up the pharmacology textbook and read up on the beta blockers. If you have beta blockers down cold before school starts you'll be ahead of the pack. Also, study the alzheimers meds and parkinsons meds. If you can get that under your belt before school starts you'll be ahead of the game.

If you already know the endocrine system and the nervous system in the gut you're probably good to go.

Go with medical terminology if you are unfamiliar with it terms; it will save you so much time. Also go buy the Saunders Comprehensive Review NCLEX RN Examination book. It covers about everything that you will study and presents it in an outline form and has the practice questions that will be on your exams at school and on the NCLEX.

The Beta Blocker suggestion was a great one. I would tell you to go one further and study all the heart meds as well; however, I wished I had more of my terms down before I started.

Hey all Thanks for the replies! My degree was a BA in Bio i changed from pre-med to nursing :yeah:! So i have the basic knowledge of most things but im sure nursing school will make me feel dumb again haha.

Sounds like alot haha. Hmm Any books on terminology or websites that i can use to save money ? Also whats a nice pharmacology book to get for the beta blockers/alzhiemers/parkisons/heart meds? (just a general one?)

Saunders review for $40 seems like a ok price.. I'll grab that one soon.. (hopefully i can find it cheaper)

play on playa, you can get mosby's on amazon used for like 30 bucks, get anything used that you can cause thats all youre gonna do is use the hell out of it

read A&P for dummies, and start on reading the drug book... when you start taking pharmachology it'll help you!

Study up on your drug math. The math is easy but some of the rules are different (pediatrics, geriatrics, etc.). Go to the college book store and see what book they use. Other things like mixing insulin and most of the books have lots of drug labels in them. Getting familiar with looking for experation dates, concentrations, reconstitution etc. will put you ahead of the curve.

Heyy, I got the Saunders NCLEX-RN Comprehensive Review book for $16 dollars used on Amazon, and it came in great condition!! I would suggest trying out amazon.

Im most likely gonna pick up the saunders/mosby/some kinda pharm book and "try" and fit studying in for like a couple hours a week along with my 30hrs of work and 2 classes right now haha
