What is your choice?

Hello my fellow male nursing students. I am in need of a lab coat for clinicals, but am unsure of what to get. One of my professors suggested one with elastic cuffs so it can be pulled up for certain procedures, but they aren't so appealing to the eye. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? Keep in mind that most facilities require physicians/caregivers to remove lab coats for procedures these days.... I used Landau's lab coat, and like it pretty well. I do roll up the sleeves for procedures if I have to. I also think those elastic cuffs are pretty ugly..

I have just a regular Landau lab coat, but I rarely wear it. The only times that I do wear it is when I'm at a clinical that we don't wear our uniforms and have to be in professional dress. I have never worn my lab coat while performing any procedures.

Check to make sure that your school doesn't require a certain brand/kind. We have to wear white landau nursing jackets. I hate the way they look, and to get the length to fit me in the arms I had to buy a 2x jacket (I am a L). I only wore it for one quarter, then decided that I needed more freedom and hated wearing the dumb thing. Only place for pockets was on the lab coat, so unles you bought your own scrubs with extra pockets, you were kind of up a creek! I don't like the fitted cuffs because of how they look and feel on a guy, but i also don't like them because they are horrible harbors for germs!

Check wth the school first, and if they let you buy scrubs with extra pockets (recommend Landau cargo pants for guys) then do so. Looks more masculine and allows you to still keep all of your supplies handy.

Unless you have to, don't get a long lab coat. I got mine longer because I thought it would look better, but I ended up getting it hemmed (sp?) because it was just too much. I don't recommend the elastic sleeves.
