Pampa: I have been receiving a free nursing newsletter in the mail (sorry, forgot the name) that is sent out to Texas and Louisiana nurses. The other day-after I wrote you, in fact,- there was some mention of a loan repayment plan that President Bush legislated to encourage people to become nurses. Good Luck

Pampa: hi again. The magazine mentioned legislature passed in 2002. I remember hearing about severalo years ago but, if I remember correctly, it was for "new nurses" either just graduating or something. Check with the Board of Nurses or even with the school. As for how long I have been a nurse, I have been an RN for going on 14 years. You?MLF

Pampa: Good morning. No, at this time, I don't intend to further my education. In fact, I think one of my doctor's would have a few words about me doing so-every time I return to school she tells me that I am nuts and that I have enough degrees. I have my Associate Degree in Nursing, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology, and a minor in Sociology. If I were interested in the making the effort I believe I could apply for a Liberal Arts Degree-I have enough credits-and a minor in psychology. I also took Vickie Millazzos course for becoming a legal nurse consultant. At one time I started working toward a EMT education but found out they don't pay enough. Now I am pursuing a career in legal nurse consulting-and make lots, and lots, of money-I hope. Was that more information then you needed? (Ha). Well, have a great weekend and good luck. MLF

Pampa: just a quick word of advice then I need to run. Be very careful of your choices! As a teenager I worked-and volunteered- in nursing homes. CNA. While I enjoy and respect the elderly I knew it was not the field I wanted to work in. Then, years later, I went to nursing school hoping to work neonatal-my dream at that time. Well, when I started school there was a nursing shortage but by the time I finished there wasn't-that is the way it goes with nursing. Anyway, long story short, the only job I could get was in long-term-care. I'm not knocking it-many nurses actually enjoy working there. After a time-even 5 years-I couldn't get a job in a hospital because of "lack of experience". Now, I am in a different state and it is even harder to find a job (nursing home or hospital) unless you have experience in specialty areas. This is partly why I am going into legal nurse consulting. Again, Good Luck MLF

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! LOL:o man the commercials and website would have you to believe that there is a shortage in the nursing field. man. so do you think that specialty would be the way to go huh. yeah i worked in the nursing home for 7 years as a CNA, and i loved those people, some i still hold near and dear, but i want to do something that isnt the same every day , but if they say you lack experience how do you go about getting that experience if they dont let you try?!
