how is it like compare to nursing home?

I worked in an Assisted Living facility as an HHA for one resident. I liked it. I haven't spent much time in a nursing home so I can't really compare. The ALF facility had a lot of residents who were able to move around more and freely throughout the facility. They had breakfast, lunch and dinner serve in the dining area, which their choice of what to eat. The food looked good, too.

Some residents were free to come and go as they wished. They lived in little apartments, with or without a roommate. The apartments had a livingroom, bedroom, nice bathroom, and a tiny kitchen with no stove. Some apartments were nicer than others.

Assisted living residents typically can perform most care for themselves, as opposed to many total care (feeding, dressing, bathing and changing) patients in NH. ALF patients often take their own medications, although there is usually a medication tech there.

Working in AL is a VERY cushy job in comparison. A LOT less to do.
