This link to The Center for Nursing Advocacy states that about 5-6% of nurses in the US and Canada are male.

Some specialties will be higher and some will be lower - in the NICU where I work, there are only two other male nurses in the department, which means I am the only male nurse on many of my shifts. If nursing is really where you are looking, you have to get used to being alongside women. Sometimes you'll even be the only male.

I wouldn't have it any other way...Im not a nurse yet but I love working with and around women;) You feel like the "alpha male" of a pride...
DID I JUST SAY THAT?? lol Just kidding...Most of my pre-req classes are mostly women and its cool when your one of two or three men in the class...Women also have a different type of dicipline toward work that I admire and strive for...I have that as well but its cool to learn from a differnet view point.. My study groups would usually be all women which would contribute to my getting an A in that class because they would know allot
If your in NY and in a CNA program, chances are there are males in your class as more and more men opt for nursing and general health care.
thanks for the onfo..are you loc in new york?
