Hello fellow nurses and nurses to be, I have been a nurse for about 4 years and an RN for just a year in ortho rehab. I am interested in getting into injectables and Botox in the Dallas/Plano market. I plan to open up a medical spa someday after I finish my MSN. My question is are there any guys out there doing this?
Is it a challenge for men to work in this part of nursing and how to patients receive this?
How do I break into this line of work? (I`m currently in orthopedic rehab).
I am comfortable with needles and have a background in sales and communication for years. Any job openings or ideas would be much appreciated.

What does being male have to do with it?

Here we go again.
Guys, get over yourselves.
I'm going to change my forum name to femalenurse13.
Wow, thanks for the love guys. I have been looking into this and the feedback I have gotten so far was that most medical spas favor female nurses over male nurses for injectables. I have called around and all 4 spas in my area only have female care staff members. I called the school offering the injectables course and they said it is not impossible, but most places prefer a female nurse as well. So I was just reaching out on this forum to get some personal experiences from any male nurse doing this(get his perspective) and also reach out to the female nurses as well to see if they have any tips. I`m not sure why there seems to be an "issue" with my forum question!

OP... Don't listen to the ignorance of the previous posters....your question was legit.... I know of nurses in this field and men who also are in this line of work... I say go for it... Talk to others that work in med spas in your area ... I will be opening a med spa/laser hair removal clinic hopefully by late 2016.

You can do it. 98 % of your clientele will be females and may be more comfortable around female nurses. You have to be very attractive, funny and charming or your chances of success is very low .
And, um, be good at Botox.
Guys give manis and pedis and they aren't nurses. What is the big deal about a male nurse administering Botox?

Most of the plastic surgeons and dermatologists around here tend to be male, so I see no issue. A lot of massage therapists are also male.

Yeah, a steady hand would be good - much prefer that over attractive!
Exactly. Why even ask?

Check out Rand Rusher in Beverly Hills. He is an exceptional injector with a very successful practice. He's also a very nice person. He didn't achieve his level of success overnight. But he is proof that men can be very successful in this filed. Good Luck!
