making flash cards...would they help with studying?

Published

I am using the exam cram content book to study for my lpn boards. I am reading through each chapter and making flashcards on notecards as i read; for example: the dz, s/s, and treatment. Do you think this will help me study and retain the information for the nclex?? I failed once already and the only thing I did was answer questions...some questions off of saunders and questions on the lacharity. I think what i need to do is study content more so that is why i am making flashcards and reading so i can learn the info. I just hope i'm not wasting my time doing that. I will also answer questions again from lacharity but not until i know the content first. Is this a good idea??? Any advice????

Thank you! :)

I am studying the Saunders comp review and Lacharity also. When I study, I review the content then I try to get an understanding of what's going on in the body. I write out flash cards, I look up terms on google, I watch videos on youtube. After I review the content, I answer questions from the Saunders cd-rom, Incredibly made easy, Lacharity and Kaplan. I also listen to nursing audio when I'm driving, cooking, and cleaning. Also the Kaplan book mention that a lot of student answer questions by recall and recognition, Kaplan say's the nclex don't give you questions where you could answer the question by recall recognition. The Nclex wants to see your decision making. I hope this help, good luck!

Writing out the material on flashcards is a good way to study. Any use of the different senses is a good way to study. Just listening to a recitation of facts while you are busy can be helpful in its own way. The more you expose yourself to the material, the more you will come away with for test day.
