UMFK ABSN acceptance!!

U.S.A. Maine

Published

I found out today that I was accepted to the accelerated nursing program at UMFK! I am very excited about it, however I'm still waiting to hear back from Marymount Univ and MCPHS. Does anyone know the Fort Kent, ME area very well? From research I've done online, it seems to be a really small town up north. I was hoping to find information about housing and the cost of living, etc. Any information would be a big help!

Hi cryoung!

I got accepted to UMFK's accelerated nursing program as well. I know you posted this a while back, but I was curious to see if you ended up at FK!

Would love to hear

Thanks ! :)

I realize this thread is almost a year old, but did either of you (or anyone else) end up going to UMFK? I am also wondering about the cost of living and lifestyle. I'm from Florida. Never been up north. I wanted to be somewhere different so this will be totally new if I go here.

Are you still thinking of going to UMFK? It is a small town but surrounded by beautiful scenery, a lot of outdoor activities, and very nice people. I would estimate that a 2 bedroom apartment costs $500-700

per month to rent. You'll be paying a bit for electricity or oil depending on how your place it heated. I would not say that groceries are any more costly than other parts of the country. Gas right now is about $3.50 a gallon. Fort Kent is about an hour and 20 minutes from the closest airport. The lifestyle is very laid back. Fort Kent is on the US/Canada border so you have the option of crossing the border if you have a passport. The nursing program itself is considered one of the best in the state, has high first time NCLEX pass rates, and a wonderful/supportive faculty. The University as a whole has been voted one of the best colleges in the northeast by the Princeton Review for 9 years in a row. Hope this helps. I would be happy to answer any specific questions that you may have.

I actually got accepted but I am from California. Would you recommend that kind of move?

apeters1, and if anyone else gets these notifications, I know the posts are from a year ago.

Im waiting to hear back from UMFK. I applied to a couple different states, from California too, mainly because of a lower GPA :/.

However, I am wondering if anyone on this post did end up going. I was thinking about jobs today because of it being a small town. No matter what, if I get in Ill more than likely end up going. This is for their BSN program.

However, if anyone has information about UMFK I'd appreciate it. There doesn't seem to be a lot on here from more recent years.

Thanks anyone :)

I am just finishing up the accelerated BSN this summer. A lot of CNA jobs in town in the local nursing homes, other than that students also work at Subway and the local grocery store....if you are willing trying out the nursing home... about $5 more per hour.. and great experience and will help with your clinical rotations.

Great program overall. No regrets about moving up to Fort Kent.

Hi Ryan,

I wondered if you could tell me how flexible classes are at Fort Kent for ABSN (online classes). I was recently accepted to ABSN but I live in the Southern part of the state (I have a family and can't move them). Is there any distance learning component to the ABSN at UMFK? Any insights would be so helpful. Thanks!!

Would anyone who attended the ABSN program at UMFK be willing answer a few questions about the program? I would really appreciate it!

Hey, I just sent you a private message. Should be shown in your inbox. I did UMFK's traditional BSN program, but was sometimes in the same classes with ABSN students.
