Mac users' experiences with ECCO

Specializes in hopefully ICU someday....

hey all,

Just started ICU training this week (finally!! a dream job!!) and part of my orientation involves completing online training with AACN's ECCO. Unfortunately the specs for ECCO claim it will only work on PCs, these same specs do seem a bit outdated and, I am wondering what *your* personal experience has been with ECCO, especially if you are a apple/mac user.

don't want to have to buy a new machine (even a "cheap" netbook) if I can avoid it..don't have the first paycheck yet..

(seems odd that a web based application/program would be system specific...)

anyway would love to hear what ECCO was like for you.

Thanks everyone,

I'm a Mac user and wouldn't go back to PC for anything. Congrats on your job! You'll love it!

anyway, I would think that your hospital would provide time during your orientation to complete the ECCO course. Our new orientees go to the nursing ed dept and spend a week in the computer bank working on it...and they're all using Dells.

good luck!

I did the ECCO program on a Mac with OS X, there were some glitches but in the end it still worked. On some of the screens with multiple items where you click through each item, the first one will be all the way to the right and outside of the margins, but if you go to the second item then come back to the first it will be correct on the screen. You have to make sure your cookies are enabled but that may also be the case with a PC. When you open ECCO, it will open each lesson as a new window from the Main Menu window, unlike on a PC, you have to make sure that main windows stays open or it won't always save your progress in the lesson.

In terms of ECCO in general, much of the info was not up to date, which made it hard to trust the info I was getting, having already worked in an ICU, much of the info was review, and it's definitely not my style of learning.

thanks for the info. I am counting on the real world clinical training being the primary source of my experiences and learning.

people>computers.

(btw i got my login and have begun ECCO on OS x 10.6.? using the browser chrome, and so far things are fine. Even took a test and it went ok).

I disliked the Ecco Class Very much. We had Time allocated to use the PC in the Class for 2 weeks. 2 weeks Of reading stuff as fast as program went not many chances to ask questions. I Could Have Stay in Home And save money And Time on the commute. I wouldnt. Mind half And half computer And classroom instruction but not this pain I went through.
