Hi all!!! I used to live in New York. I'm currently in nursing school for my BSN in Tennessee. I'm wanting to move to the Boston area after graduation but am not sure what the job market is like there. A friend in New York told me that Mass General is "the place to be." Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or any advice about moving up there? I wont graduate until May 2005 so I have plenty of time to think about it. Thanks for your time and have a great day!!! :)

Hi,

You should take a look at this site. http://www.boston.com. Check out the careers and search for health care. I believe there are over 2000 nursing jobs.

As far as Mass General is concerned. I am not a nurse so this is heresay from other nurses - Mass General does not pay as well as other hospitals. ( like Brigham and Women's). I believe that it is not a union shop.

Mass General has a wonderful reputation, but so don't alot of other hospitals in the Boston Area.

You should take a look at the following hospitals in the Boston area as well as Mass General.

Brigham and Womens

Beth Israel Deaconess

New England Medical Center

Boston Medical Center - probably the best trauma hospital in Boston........

Take Care and Good Luck

I worked at the Brigham before relocating to Va. and if I were back in Ma, I'd be working there in a heartbeat!! Loved it! There's always pros and cons to any job, but trust me, it was the best job I ever had, not to mention the best group of people I ever worked with.

I travel to many of the Boston Hospitals on a daily basis and would have to say without reservation that the Brigham is the best when it comes to treatment of nurses, MGH would be one of my choices, but does not pay as well, i would not recommend any of the caritas hospitals!

The Brigham has a great union and the best pay. Beth Isreal used to be a great place to work but is having financial difficulty from what I hear and although they used to be the model for primary nursing, things have gone downhill. "The General" still consideres themself to be THE place to work and feel that they shouldn't have to pay you as much as the other hospitals since it is such a privilege for you to have them on your resume.:chuckle
