LVN to RN in Southern California, but w/minimal pre-reqs?

Published

Hi everyone. I recently married my girlfriend of nearly 10 years, so really happy about that. She is happy that she can move forward with her education in Nursing. Currently she is an LVN here in Southern California (inland empire area) and is pulling her hair out looking for an LVN to ADN/RN bridge program that doesn't require a year+ of college pre-requisites. Whats the point in spending a year or more doing pre-reqs just to bridge into RN and take a total of 2 years when 2 year straight up RN programs already exist?

I've been helping her for a long time now dig and dig for something and as far as im aware, there aren't many options. I agreed to support her while she got her RN but my own finances are somewhat limited, so this has to be accomplished as fast as possible. She doesn't want to do the 30 unit non-degree programs because the limitations of it are a turn off too. A few places she mentioned to me were Concordia University in Irvine (crappy drive from Riverside), and SJVC (San Joaquin Valley College). SJVC has a campus in Ontario, however their LVN to RN bridge program is ONLY OFFERED IN VISALIA, CA! Thats a 4+hr drive!

Is there something we're missing? Are there any alternatives? Open to all suggestions, happy to hear anything and everything! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most two year RN programs also require 1 to 1.5 years of prerequisites before admission. That may be what you're missing.
