So I have a full time job at an urgent care and managed to get another one as a HH nurse with NO experience in L.A. I'M shocked she called.:lol2: Anyways my first pt is coming up and honestly I know nothing about Home health so im terrified, all she said was theres bowel care involved, something like i need to evacuate her bowels:eek: which I've never done before. Any advice for a newbie:nurse:?? I dont think theres much training involved, just what she told me over the phone:idea:

Go to the office and get a copy of the 485 for this patient. Read it over, look up the meds if you need to, and ask questions about anything that you are not familiar with. Ask them to provide you with an orientation to the patient, on your own time, if need be, although you should have a paid orientation of two to four hours. If this is all the orientation to a new patient you are going to be offered, I would look for a different agency. You should not have to ask for the 485 or for an orientation. It is their responsibility to properly orient you.

First HH pt ever, no preceptor, no direction other than "bowel care involved"? RUN.
