Hello I will be finishing nursing school at the end of February. I know I will pass all the class in lpn school well i hope lol. I am moving back to Houston tx in May of 2014. I see a lot of people post here saying that there are no jobs available for the new LPN's. I just cant believe that Houston don't have any jobs for new LPN's. How is the job outlook for 2014? Do anyone think that the nursing in Houston is to over populated? I mean I would work at any nursing home down there but I don't want to do home health if I have to I will. I am just trying to plan how I will go about getting a job in my field. I don't want to go back to work as a server but I will cause my old job still wants me to come back. Hey anyone with information about the job outlook in 2014 for LPN's in Houston that would be great. Thanks

You should go to the Texas Nursing forum on the regular AllNurses site. Click "allnurses" on the right at the top of the page. When you're in the right department the bar at the top will be yellow, not blue.
Good luck, BTW I'm going to be an LPN too, God willing...

The majority of hospitals in the Houston area are looking at a minimum BSN for new hires.

For a hospital, LVN's are not being hired, it is getting hard as a new ADN to get hired.
If your looking at Nursing homes and such, that is a little easier to get hired for.
The Houston RN market is very competetive, BSN is getting to be almost a requirement for the metro area, outlying area hospitals still hire new ADN's and some even LVN's.

Kindred Hospital hires LVNs, which is a LTAC hospital. Typically you need one of experience for them.

First of all, please make sure you check with the TX BON to be sure you will be eligible for LVN licensure in TX. Most LP/VN educational programs are not nationally accredited, so there is a great deal of variation. You may discover that you need to have some additional requirements in order to get your TX LVN license.
LVN jobs in acute care are very scarce in the Houston area - mostly limited to areas like admissions or clinic-type services. Your chances will be much better if you have some experience prior to moving.
Thanks everyone for there input I really appreciate it. I have already looked at Texas BON site. Missouri and Texas are both compatible States so I can get my licensed and down there with no problem. I actually have been.cna/cmt for.3years hoping that will help me and a job as an LPN.. I actually.would take any LPN job as long as is not home health.. I don't want to work in the hospitals so thinking the clinic well better for me are maybe even drug rehab.are umm I also thought about working in the prisons.. @tom good luck in school you can do it..

HI [COLOR=#003366]Cher_SKY,
Did you move back to Houston, TX the way you planned? if so, did you land a job? I am thinking about moving to Texas by the end of the year and I am an LPN w/some experience and wanted to know how the market is there? any information you can provide would be most helpful.
