Published

Hi, I am new here. I am interested in LVN certification. But i have no knowledge about it. I completed my studies outside USA> i need all info regarding LVN course. will i be eligible for NCLEX exam after certification?

Can i become RN after LVN certification and how?

Will i have to go to college again to become RN after LVN certification? Can i prepare for NCLEX-RN at home without going to college?

Please help me out.

Thanks

To sit for the LVN certification and licensing exam, you need to go through a year (could be longer, depending on what school you look at)of LVN training. I have never done it but I hear it's very difficult. Once you complete your year of training you take the NCLEX to become an LVN ONLY. You need to go back to college and take certain classes to be admitted into the RN program. The NCLEX-RN is not something you can study for and take without proper training.

Good Luck!!

I am a LPN (same as a LVN). It took me 10 months full time to be able to sit for the boards. The length really depends on the school and whether you are going part or full time. As was already mentioned, to become a RN you will need to attend school again. Some colleges have bridge programs that shorten that time, so check into your local community colleges. Excelsior is the only online course to get your RN after your LVN, but you still need to attend a weekend clinical. Check out the distance learning section for more info.

At my college, we must complete like two years of prereqs before entering the LPN program. Our LPN program is 11 months, and then we can sit for our nclex.

Now, RN students are allowed to take the nclex pn after 2 semesters, that is an advantage because they'll be able to work as a nurse while finishing up for the RN degree.

Some people go to a vocational school, that doesn't require prereqs. However, if you want your RN, I would advise you to get a start on those prereqs. Good luck...
