Okay so I've been doing this forever...and I am of the generation that treated supervisors with respect...

I have a nurse who is blatantly rude and hostile to both me and the administrator. She called me the other night to tell me what MY job was! She is shortly going to be shown the door for her attitude and insubordination...

What is it with these younger people? Didn't they ever learn the right way to say things or to express a disagreement?

Rhetorical questions maybe, but they really need to learn.

And it's not just younger folks.

Just this week the DON & I called a nurse down to the office to simply chat with him. Suddenly we were getting lots of complaints about him ripping everyone's head off. He's a good nurse and important part of the team. We only wanted to say "Hey...what's up. Your not acting like yourself & we've noticed. Something wrong, something we can do to help, etc, etc" We all chatted, conversation went well, nurse left the office laughing. Next thing we know, rumors are back to us that nurse is ******** on the unit..."I knew they hated me, I knew they didn't want me here...blah, blah, blah."

Jeesh...he really deserved to be written up with his awful attitude the past couple weeks but we tried to cut him a break. Sometimes just not worth it to go the extra effort to be nice & cut a break.

Document every little thing or the nurse will end up getting unemployment. Insubordination.... they never did what they were told to do... not, they eventually did it but just slower than expected. Sad that we have all dealt with this type of employee over the years. It's as if they feel entitled and can set their own agenda. Hang in there, I know you can handle the situation just fine.
