First DON job!

  1. O excited to be starting my first DON job. It's a small Alzheimer's assisted living community. I think it's going to be a great place for me to learn the role. What was your biggest challenge as a new DON/DNS within the first year?

Biggest challenges in any new admin. position is staff education to ensure your nurses/CNA's are following policies/procedures on a daily basis. The better your staff works together and understands that you are willing to help them, the better the outcome will be for Residents and your surveys. I have worked in DON/ADON positions in large skilled facilities only, but would imagine it is the same for smaller facilities. Know what your expectations are and convey this to your staff.

Thanks for the reply. I plan to spend some time getting to know the staff and the policies. We had a deficiency free survey, so there was no new plan of correction to go over. I want to see the old ones from the last two or three years though.
