How much 'evidence' do you require before terminating someone for alleged abuse? I have statements from the accused and one other CNA stating she didn't do what she was accused of (verbal abuse) and I have statements from 2 other people saying she did,in fact ,speak to a resident in a threatening, angry tone of voice. Obviously I can't allow abuse, but do I need iron clad proof to terminate someone? Opinions would be welcome.

No proof needed. All states are at-will employment. You don't really need any proof. That aside, errors should be in favor of protecting the resident, especially in LTC.

Sounds hard but it is better to lose the employee and be wrong firing them than keep them and be wrong about their innocence.

Exactly what I thought, what I did, and what I told the union. Thanks.
