I need a little inspiration right now Please tell your Rags to riches stories Lpns and RN I read a previous post about it but that was a couple yrs ago. Here's my story happy hoildays I'm a mom of 3 girls I started Nursing School January 2016 for LPN I excelled in my program I had to stopped going this October guess why..well as I stated before I have 3 kids under 6 so I need childcare I applied for a government program to help me pay for child care without it I would pay 400 WEEK well of course when doing anything government you have to reneq every 6 months once I renewed I made 9 dollars over so I was cut off I work prn as a patient sitter in hospital I make 17.60hour which is great when there's work. Anyways I had to leave school bc of it I was devastated I hate having to depend on the government for anything which is why I refuse to apply for food stamps I can't wait for the day I don't need anything government so I said f them I saved up money to pay for child care I only have 8 more months left of school I grow up on welfare no mom or dad always struggling moved out at 19 with boyfriend got pregnant at 19 eventually end up on welfare for my first child had two more And needed welfare for them also Great news is I will be returning back to in January 2017 I will definitely rock it this time around I will NOT stop I WILL BE A NURSE IN 2017.

Make it easier on yourself and use food stamps, I did.

I was a single mom of 2 boys, my youngest was recently diagnosed with autism when I was working on my pre-reqs for nursing school.

It was long and hard and used every government program I could find to help support us.

I worked part-time as a ED tech, took my oldest to soccer, tae-Keon-do..etc multiple sport kid.

My youngest was multiple therapists

I had help from my parents as well for child care. My Dad would help when I had car issues.

I was getting Medicaid for my boys, food stamps for all of us, SSI benefits for my youngest son. Special waivers for my electric bill by apply for low-income assistance. Help for paying for day-care. Those programs exists to help people get on their feet.

I am not ashamed to have used those programs. Don't know why you don't want to use them, you will pay back in taxes when you are working.

I have been an RN over 6 years. I pay my taxes and have owned my home for the last 3 years.

But becoming a RN is no rags to riches!

I am solidly middle class

homeowner, but carry a debt and still have student loans to pay.

I will still have loans when my oldest goes off to college next year.

But I do make enough to support a family of 5, however we are not rich

I'm still in the rags. Granted, my rags don't have quite as many holes as they once did, but they sometimes far exceed the hole-y limits of some of my colleagues. I simply snip the loose threads and keep it moving.

As far as riches, if that's what you're hoping to gain, you're entering the wrong profession, my dear. I think someone in the 'oldest' profession stands a better chance at gaining riches than I do. Maybe I should go buy me some red pumps, a wig, and lots-n-lots of glitter.

On a serious tip in regards to your situation, I've been there, done that; didn't see even the slightest profit until the kids got grown and we were all living under separate rooftops. Word of caution: even then, they come back and they are not alone when they return.:D

My rags-to-riches story? I went from working 64 hours per week, to no more than 24 hours per week and can still manage to keep the lights on, the water running, and take an occasional trip or two to the beach. I have everything that I need; my wants are very few because that would mean more time needing to be spent on the job.

I don't actually MEAN GETTING RICH it's a figure of speech I've wanted to be a NURSE SINCE I WAS 12.

Thanks for sharing ladies
