LPN wishing to continue on to RN online Excelsior?

Published

:nurse: I just wanted to know if anyone has actually gone through this school and became an RN. I am turning 47 this year and I'd like to continue on but I am afraid of online schools. Do you actually get a degree are you actually employable. I am totally foreign to this type of learning and at my age I can't take any chances. I'd appreciate any comments!

There are many current students and grads of EC that post often in the distance forum as well as numerous threads about EC there. You can get the gamut of responses by doing some reading there. Also, get very, very familiar with ECs website: http://www.excelsior.edu Best advice that most people will start you with is to avoid the publishing companies (The College Network, Chancellors, Rue, etc.) and take as many of your prerequisites/corequisites as possible prior to enrolling in EC to save money. Also, before you even bother with EC you need to find out if your state, or the state where you plan to get your RN license, accepts EC as is for licensure, or imposes other requirements. You can find out by contacting your state board, or contacting EC directly, or looking on their site for the current status.

I am going to EC through College Network and LOVE IT. College Network is great, the web site is easy to use and they even print out the book and send it to you if you ask for it (I recomend this) for free. You do it in your own time and can take as long as you need before you take your exam. They also provide a lot of support. They even have financing that is not credit based. My counselor was great so if you do decide to enroll I can get you his contact information. He can answer all your questions. He even helped me several times after I enrolled. I have talked to several RNs who have graduated through EC and said they couldn't have done it any other way. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any question

I suggest you speak with an advisor at Excelsior College. You can complete the program without the $5000 contract that a representative from The College Network will attempt to get you to sign.

The College Network study guides can be bought used on ebay for $15 to $30 apiece, instead of over $5000.
