I have been an lpn for four years. I had a one year monitoring agreement for rule out substance abuse which I worked through and completed November 2013 successfully with no issues. In July I decided I can no longer be a nurse. The emotional drain is too much for me. So I went back to grooming dogs in the meantime. I'm planning on finishing my degree in elementary education starting in march. I'm just worried about getting licensed as a teacher with my past monitoring agreement and discipline on my nursing license. Anyone else with any experience or advice? On Monday I plan on calling the board of education to ask but thought I might get some info here. Thanks!

Hope one of our members can advise you re the education profession and licensure. In some states, LPN's can function as Certified nursing Assistant instructors--something you might want to consider. Best wishes in your career journey.

Wish I had some concrete info RE teaching boards/licensure, but I don't. Just wanted to wish you the best. Nursing is tough--I hate to see anyone leave it, but you know what's right for you. I think teachers (of all kinds and at all levels) are totally awesome! Nursing-related teaching is a good idea--you already have the LPN--it might make a nice change, or provide a kind of bridge while you're learning to be a teacher. Good luck!
