LPN starting RN school spring '09

I am excited and anxious about starting LPN to RN school Jan 2009. I graduated with my LPN Oct 2006 and don't have any work experience due to getting married, having a baby, moving-family obligations. We decided with my husband working fulltime I could take advantage of going to school fulltime to complete my RN. My concern is that I will be going into RN school and it's been since Oct 2006 that I was in nursing school for my LPN. What do I have to expect for my RN classes? I'm concerned that since I don't have the work experience and it's been just a few years since I was in school I may have difficulties. Are they going to throw subjects at me as if I already REMEMBER everything from LPN school? Help please.. somebody ease my mind? Also, I'll mention that the school I will be going to offers a bridge from LPN to RN which is what I am doing-but this is not the same school I went to for my LPN.

I am also going to be doing the LPN to RN transition program starting Fall 2009. I have been working as a LPN, which I think will help the transition, but just remember, don't stress too much because nursing is on the job training. So even if you were working as a LPN, some concepts might be more familiar, but all the RN responsibilities are going to be new. And school is great preparation (also a necessity) but it's very different actually practicing. You'll be fine, don't worry!

From what the OP is saying, she is concerned about school because she has never worked as a LPN. I think that's what I got from the post. If this is correct then her learning by practicing was/is not an option. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

I just graduated LPN and will be staring my 2 semester program in the fall of 09. Its a pretty short program. Good luck guys.

You should have received your results right away. Wherever you took the exam, contact them and inquire. Good luck hope you passed; I'm sure you did!

Hi BabyNurse_PJN,

If you were a good student in LPN school you should have no worries. It will come back to you and in the mean time I would try to get a syllabus from the last semester of the RN group you are joining to make sure you are up to speed. There were LPNs in my bridge program that had been working for a long time and some that hadn't ever worked in the field and we all did great. Keep us posted and good luck!

Does anyone know of any programs where you can work and attend school together?

DON'T WORRY, I AM IN THE SAME BOAT. I CAN JUST TELL YOU THAT YOU WILL HAVE A BASE OF KNOWLEDGE TO RELY ON, TRY TO GET PRN JOB AT A HOSPITAL IN MEDSURG LIKE I DID. IT HAS PROVEN INVALUABLE AND YOU WILL ALREADY HAVE THAT IV CERTIFICATION AND BE PRACTICING WITH RN'S. BEST OF LUCK AND IF I CAN HELP, JUST YELL. :D:nurse:
