How many hours a week do most of you work as an LPN while pursuing your RN?

I was just accepted into a bridge program and even though they recommend cutting your hours down,

in this economy, it is not always an option.

I work 32 hours per week as an LPN/LVN in a nursing home. My hours consist of 16-hour double shifts every Saturday and Sunday, which enables me to have Monday through Friday off to attend school full-time.

I work 54 hrs in a week............... Monday thru friday 6-2pm.

I'm doing 36hrs a week in a correctional facility while in the full time program. Its do-able, it just feels like I don't have a life.

I'm somewhat puzzled. Monday through Friday 6-2pm adds up to 40 hours in a week, not 54 hours per week.

Do you work overtime shifts to arrive at the 54 hour weekly figure?

I don't usually take my entitled 30mins break plus hours spent before given report. Also I do pull double shift. Hope this clarify my 54hrs!

I work 16 hours every other weekend. I give kudos to the other Nurses that work a full time shift every week. If you have to work full time it is possible. One of my best friends in the program works Sunday night from 7p-7:30am then comes to school on Monday from 11-4:30.

I work 30hrs/week in addition to 20hrs/week of class, clinical, and lab time. The way I see it, in nursing school you can either adjust your schedule accordingly or your grades can take the fall.

I'm in an online LPN-RN bridge program. I've been working three 12's nights a week throughout the program. Right now I'm in the middle of clinicals and it really feels like I have no life! I work my 36 hours, have one day to turn my night schedule back to a day shift schedule and then go right into another 3 days of clinicals. Yuck! Can't wait til I'm done with clinicals and back to the didactic portion. I'll have another set of clinicals to wrap things up in March-April. I think it works for me because it's a long-term care facility that I've worked at for close to 2 years now. Can't imagine starting a new job in the midst of the program.

If you don't mind my asking, where is your online LPN-RN program located?

I am in the Pratt Community College program out of Pratt, KS. We have students in our program from all over, Colorado, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri and all over the state of Kansas. It is a very affordable program. For the out of state students though, they were required to do clinicals in Kansas. Most just moved here for the 6 weeks, into short term apartments. I think that a couple took agency jobs, etc. during their time here.

We just finished our clinicals and are getting ready to start our last semester.

PM me if you have any questions.

I am working 84 hours a biweek pay period and it is doable but I have to have discipline and keep telling myself that one day soon my life will be back. Eat live and sleep nursing whether working or at school!
