Am I Too Old To Go Back To School?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

So I decided to go back to RN school on-line. I work full-time at an area hospital, unfortunately, the LPNs have been phased out of acute care settings. I have been an LPN for 30 years. (I started young ) I am finding it difficult to retain an enormous amount of work for one exam. Anyone out there have any advice? I would be very grateful! Thank you!

You're not too old, it's hard for everyone. My best advice is to suck it up and do what you need to do to make it through. It's going to be a rough time, but a temporary one. Focus on the reward, friend

I guess POSITIVITY is the key word. I need to keep my eye on the reward, you're right.

Not sure if you're doing Excelsior or some other online school. I tried both and could not stay with self-study. I decided to go through a local community college and now that I have pre-reqs done, I'm in an accelerated ADN program. Much better fit for me! (Btw, I'm 46)

I am in Excelsior on-line. I took transitions and passed, then quit. I re-enrolled and now have to take A & P. I like on-line since I work 3-11 and sometimes get home very late. I couldn't believe the amount of work for a pre-req class! I will get through this tho...

Yes, you can do it. I have had women in their 50's in my pre-nursing classes. Keep going and don't stop this time. You have the experience all you need is a little more motivation. Keep us updated.:nurse:

Specializes in Emergency Department.

Honestly, if you're younger than dead and you've still got a few functional brain cells, you can do this. It's not easy having to do all that work for each exam. It's just not. You've got a ton of knowledge and experience, so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Just add to what you already know!

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

I don't know about you, but my birth certificate doesn't have an expiration date on it. :sarcastic:

Go for it!!! Keep us posted on your progress.

I'm really grateful for all the support and humor! At least it helps when everyone is so encouraging. Keep it coming people!!:D

If it makes you feel better I am 50 and doing on line courses at excelsior. It is hard but just keep your eye on the prize. btw how do I pick an Avatar.
