Or you could just go to your local health dept, and for a nominal fee...you can get a MMR. This is what I did...as my high school was no longer in open, and my childhood physican has passed away a loooong time ago! I had no problems when I did this.

For the MMR, I went to the Health Dept. were I got all my vaccinations. :cool: I think it was around 10.00 for the MMR. :)

I had the hepatitis vaccine by a former employer who would not give the employees records of those shots. Now I need a record or a titre or repeating the shots. This vaccine is much more expensive than mmr. What do you suggest? By the way they never gave any employees records of these shots Some how that seems illegal to me.

When I returned to this country, I took a 'return to nursing' course that I needed my vaccination records or titres drawn. I had to go to a doctor, have an H&P done, then the doctor had to order the titres. It cost about $250!!! I tried everywhere, including the college's health services, bot no one would order the lab test only. I think it is a racket - not easy for someone trying to get back to work, no income or insurance....

I went to the health department and had a new MMR, much easier & cheaper than than trying to find 30+ year old records. And my NP ordered the chicken pox titer when she did my physical. I was just gonna get a new one of those also, but around here they don't give it to folks over 25. Luckily it came back positive since I only had "6" lesions when I had the chicken pox. LOL

OK. When I started nursing school, we got a "to do" list of labs and vaccines. It included titers, and then the vaccines if necessary.

Showing proof of an MMR from 23 years ago doesn't really mean anything. I had to get it 3 times before I finally tested immune. Sometimes you just lose the immunity and re-vavvination is necessary. That's why my school stressed that the titers be done.

But if your school simply wants one or the other, I agree with the others... just go get the vaccine. Quick and easy, and pretty cheap too. I got alot of my vaccines, believe it or not, through the "shots-for-tots-" program here. Free, donations accepted.

Legally you should be able to make a copy of anything in your employment file. I know I have done it, and others have too! Also I would have a letter sent to personnel from whomever you need the records for ...and see if you can get it that way. It doesn't make sense that they won't give you these records!

I hate to bring this up but, SOME of us are of the generation prior to immunizations, and not just MMR either. I had to get my titers done for MMR and chicken pox as I had all the diseases. Polio was a real problem, I was immunized during a Public Health campaign so there are no valid records of it. We just walked into the school gym and got a sugar cube, a few months later we did it again. My immunization record just says "Polio-4 in 1960", that's the closest I get to proof of immunization. On the other hand I CAN give you the dates of my small pox vac and re-vac!

Apparently they didn't put anything in to our employment file about it. Um what if I had had a reaction or something. Plus they won't let employees look at their files anyway. I thought they had to send records to the state when were immunized. They didn't do that either. I loved reading Connies e-mail. I didn't get the sugar cube but I remember lining up for the measles vaccine in the school hallway. Hey it's true that having some of these illnesses as children or getting shots does wear off.

My older brother had 3 smallpox vaccines and never got a scar (this was before oral vaccine) the doctor said it was because he had natural immunity. I have a scar but this doctor didn't want scars to show so he injected way up on left arm in back (near shoulder). He never imagined that women would wear the kind of clothing styles they do now. Any way young doctors always look on my arm for scar. My brother always catches flack from doctors. Well I suppose this is a history lesson for you young folks out there.

On those other shots we just had to give them an estimated date if we weren't sure... But the Tetorifice and MMR and Hep B all had to be the most current....

Toni.. I would just go get a Hep B titre pulled, it has to be cheaper than the series ..
