Can LPNs work in a pediatric clinic? I'm hopefully starting an LPN program next fall and I'm seriously SO excited and eager to work with kids and babies. It's my dream. I'm eventually going to bridge to RN, but I want to work as an LPN for awhile first to gain experience and knowledge. I'm 18 with a 4 month old and I'm trying my best to make my son proud and have everything he needs and wants. I'm so jealous of the nurses who work at his pediatrician's office. Lol.

It depends. Many physician offices don't use nurses they use unlicensed medical assistants to save costs. LPNs can administer medication, get vital signs, administer injections and vaccines. Do patient/family education as directed by a physician or RN. So yes, LPNs can work in pediatric clinics it just depends if the clinics in your area utilize LPNs

In my area the peds clinics mainly staff with LPN's and RN's only. I interviewed for one but I job shadowed before the formal offer and turned it down when they did offer because it just isn't for me! Thank goodness there are nurses out there that love it. The place I interviewed didn't require ped experience but did want a clinic background. I think it's great you want to do this for your son. I had kids young as well and they are part of the reason I am bridging over to my RN, I want them to know with hard work and some perseverance you can really do a lot. Good luck to you!
Thank you for the replies! :) That makes me think I have a chance to do what I've always wanted. My son is definitely my motivation.

Working in a Peds clinic is tough. You are making those kids cry on a daily basis with immunization a, treatments, etc. Plus you have to deal with their crazy parents who drive you nuts! You see a bit of heartbreak and some success stories. Overall it can be very rewarding, but it's tough like most nursing jobs.
