Hello! and what a fine site this is!!

I have been working in Neurosciences for the past 2 years since my graduation as a full scope LPN (give meds, injections, wound care..ect). My question is there anywhere I can travel and use my skills/title efficiently? I have read alot about how difficult it is to obtain registration for RN's in the UK...and I would almost like to pass on that headache...But is there anywhere else in the world that I could use my skills as a LPN? Ireland would be nice....but hey...what is out there for LPN's?

thanks in advance!!

Most countries would require RN

Afraid SD is correct. Many country's, including the UK, don't even have 2nd level training anymore. it's RN or nothing.

hmm..well that doesnt sound to promising then. What if I say I was to use the terms healthcare assistants, or nursing assistants...from what i read most of their duties are similar to an LPN. Would that be my best bet then?

still won't help with immigration.. Can you not do your RN?

Hey.

As far as your question about healthcare assistants(HCA's) overseas... Im not sure exactly what an LPN does but sounds like you are more qualified than an HCA would be here in New Zealand.

Generally HCA's assist patients with shower's, toileting, turns etc. Only on some wards are they allowed to take obs. They assist the nurse with dressings but never do it themselves. And cannot give any meds.

Sounds like you should stay where you are unless you are just wanting to travel and dont mind about not using your skills!!!

As SD said going about it as an HCA/nursing assistant etc is unlikely to work because they are not usually recognised as a job to be considered for immigration purposes.

Besides you're overqualified for that kind of job so you'd probably get frustrated anyway.

Again to echo SD (I'm doing a lot of that lately & not just on this thread:chuckle) if you're really serious why not go for your RN? It would open the door to Australia, New Zealand, USA (if you're then prepared to take N-CLEX RN) even Ireland (I don't think they have the same problem as the UK - but someone here will soon correct me if that's not the case!)
