YES..LPN/LVN are nurses, that is why they are called Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses. CNA's are unlicenced but have a certification through their state and with further trainining can become PCT (patient care techs) which have a broader scope of practice which may include phlebotomy or certain min. invasive procedures but they are not nurses.

Yes, you are on your way to becoming a nurse, as an LPN. Congratulations!

thanks!

i just wasnt sure if it annoys the rn's if the lpns are reffering to themselves as nurses.

i am in canada and didnt know about cna, so in canada is that like a medical office assistant, where they do paper work?

and can a lpn give flu shots or baby immunizations?

thanks!!!!!

Medical Assistants sound more like your Medical Office Assistant, they do clinical and medical office work. CNA's do more of the daily living necessities such as bathing, intake/output, changing linens, vitals, passing water, feeding pts, basic nursing duties in general which do not require sterile techinique or are invasive in any way. I have been a CNA for a short while so I know little bit on the subject and I am also a RN student as well. RN's should NOT have a problem calling LPNs nurses because that is what they are. I tend to believe that if a RN has a problem calling a LPN "nurse" then they probably have insecurity issues themselves.

Oh and LPNs can give injections even to infants I believe, please correct me if I am wrong.

we also have regiestered care aids that do the things you mentioned.rca must be cna

BTW congratulations on getting in a LPN program. My cousin was recently accepted into a LPN program here in IL and boy is she excited. She has been a CNA for more than 10 years and after many hardships and trials she can finally become what she has always wanted to become, a nurse!

Wow, it sounds like you entered a course that you did not know anything about! Hey, I really hope you enjoy it, and the job that comes after! You'll be able to do more than you thought you could!

If she is an LPN.....she is ALREADY a nurse, not "just on the way" to become a nurse.

LPN stands for Licensed Practical NURSE.

I am an LPN. I am a nurse.

I believe the OP is a student LPN. His/her sign on name is LPNStudent789 and said "i thought lpn was nurses assistant, but i just started school and everyone in the class is saying things like' why did you want to be a nurse" etc , meaning lpn is a nurse????

I'm not sure you even read the OP, but she said she is in school to BECOME an LPN. She is not one yet.

Hi there!!! congrats and welcome to the wonderful world of nursing... I live in ontario canada and here it is called RPN registered practical nurse and everyday they are coming up with new ways to use our skills... we pass meds, we start iv's, we put in catheters all that fun stuff, so i am sure that by the time your done school you will have learned all this and will be great at doing it... YOU ARE A NURSE!!!! never let anyone tell you different... where i work we are all treated equal RN and RPN we are all working towards the same goal.. it took a while for some of the older nurses to cut the cord but they have learned that if they work with us instead of against us we learn much faster and are much more apt to ask them questions if needed... well thats my blurb haha....

welcome again to the wonderful world of NURSING..
