Where are you working while in school?

Hey, I am really not sure what Im doing about my job at the hospital because as of now they cant keep me part time and guarantee my days off for school. Now Im not even sure if per diem would even work out. I didnt realize they can schedule you evenings/overnights also. My current pay is pretty good even though I have only had 15 hours a week since I have been there since May 2011 (have had previous positions at the hospital and got "bumped" to pharmacy in June). Its scary Im really not sure what Im going to do. For the heck of it I got an application for the rite aid phatrmacy down the street. I guess Ill go there later to see if they can tell me anyhting. WHERE ARE YOU WORKING WHILE IN SCHOOL? I really didnt want to quit due to pay senority etc., but if I do I dont know where to apply and who even knows how soon I could even get another job thats descent and flexible for school.

I got a pt job at a very highly regarded nursing home as a laundry aide. They know that I am going to nursing school and said it was a "foot in the door job" when they offered it to me. I just work Saturdays and fill in if asked. I don't want to pick up any more hours until I see how demanding school is going to be with all my kids and household responsibilities.

Good luck deciding!

I work part time in a Hannaford Pharmacy. When I was interviewed by the head Pharmacist (back in June) I told her I had applied for nursing school in our area and I told her what the hours would be if I was accepted, so she knew from the start. She also knew my grades from my previous college and she figured I would get in, (which I did) and she knows when I start next month. I have class Mon, Wed and Thursday 8-2:30 with clinicals Tues & Friday 6:45-2:30. They already told me I will be working nights and weekends at the Pharmacy which is fine with me.

I will be working 2 extremely part-time jobs (3-4 days a month at each) -- one is in the tasting room of a winery, and the other is working as an EMT at a fire department.

When I was in the LPN program, I worked weekends at an assisted living facility. Sometimes I got to study, after all my residents were tucked away to sleep & every task was completed lol.

Im just afraid of not making enough money and have to have time to study. What hours and how many weekly will you be working? Also did you mean overnights?

Well, right now, I am working Fri, Sat, and Sun 3-11pm shift as a LPN in a facility thats like a box of chocolates, never know what you're going to get. Since I am going to school Mon - Thur.it was tough adjusting to the massive paycheck change, but it's only temporary for something better! So, Bring on the admissions!?!?! Who cares about Saturdays off? Doesnt matter if you know what day it is anymore?!?Woooooot!?! (Gotta keep motivating myself here. LOL)

I'm not sure the hours yet, but I am changing my availability to 3:30-8 M-F and anytime on weekends. Our pharmacy is open 8-8 M-F, 9-6 Sat and 9-5 Sunday. Since I have class or clinicals everyday until 2:30 I figure 3:30 or 4 til close on weeknights and weekends I can work whenever. And I will be studying every break I have! Haha.

Haha.[/quote'] I wish my work had those hours. Im currently 7-3 part time. Evening shift is 3-11 and overnights 11pm-7am...thats what part im worrying about obviously I dont want to/dont think its a good idea to work those hours with school. The boss was saying though that she could put you on any shift if your per diem. She also said before that you cant come in late or leave early. Um idky..on my old floor if they had shifts that needed to be filled sometimes people would work like 3-7 or 4-9 or something. I have to get to the bottom of this. I put an application in to a local pharmacy drug store went there yesterday and I was pretty much interviewed (didnt realize would be). I really have to get this figured out wish wasnt so hard/complicated!

I work two jobs while doing nursing school, and there is no such thing as a day off. My school schedule is 7-2:15 Monday - Friday (Thursday and Friday are longer, 6-3:30 clinical hours), and my work schedule is a sitter/companion job at a nursing home from 4pm-6pm Mon - Thurs, and then from Friday to Sunday I work for a microbrewery at Disney for Friday 5-11, Sat 11am-11pm and Sunday 11am-11pm (with some fluctuations depending on business). I spend time with friends one evening a week, and I treasure my time at my weekend job because I get to goof off with co-workers and get a break from academia. Our LPN program is intense too, and we're down to 8 out of the original 26. Everyone else besides myself who worked failed out, which is why I advise against new students planning to rely on a steady paycheck. You don't want those odds!
