I am going to start this November & I wanted to know if anyone has attended Unitek College in California...Please let me know what you thought of the School.

Stephanie

It is pretty high but there is no waiting list and very easy to get into. the exam was very easy you can look up CPAT and see some examples there. I only looked at those 2 because around here they all have waiting lists. Good Luck on your decision.

How come it went up so high?!

I have just called one of the reps and he was kind of a little edge-y and wants to meet up in person. I guess take the little exam and go for the group exam next week. I'd like to know more info if you guys have it already. I'm considering unitek bcuz I'm ran into one of the students and have recommended to go there since there is no waiting list.

Have you guys looked into gurnick or ncp yet? They are 15k less but don't know if it is a definitely gets your foot in the door.

I guess it will be intense since it is only 11 months and it's m-f 8-4

iam looking into the lvn to rn program they said it is harder than local community collge upgrade program because they are new and have a pass fail rep to keep up when it come to the boards but i would like to give it a try what if you fail and still owe money can you re take any part of the program how are the clinical and the theory classes in fremont how difficult

crazy.. good luck!

Did anyone go to Unitek College for the LVN-RN bridge program?

Did anyone go to Unitek College for the LVN-RN bridge program?

they just started it last year - I spoke with some of the students last October and they were the first class - they may have graduated, not sure, depends when they started!

Hmm if anyone hears anything let me know. I talked to them and they seemed like they would be a great school to go to especially since the program is so short.

I graduated from the LVN 11 month program last year. If you have any questions feel free to email me! They worked for me - lots of people complained but if you want to get your LVN quickly, it's a good option. For me, working quickly was a priority. I just couldn't sit on waiting lists or take months of prereqs, trying to get into classes etc...I just couldn't afford to do that! Although tuition is dear - it was just under 30k when I went and if you add their prereqs - those cost 3k for 3 weeks of prereqs - ouch! it is expensive! but anyhow, I had moments of regret, many, like maybe I should have saved my money and gone the longer route! but trying to get into classes and into a program would have been stressful too! anyhow, water under the bridge! Now I can earn $$$ and do my LVN-RN on the side...I think I have a previous post talking about Unitek. I am considering their 8 month LVN-RN program but I am also thinking about Indiana U's BSN program as I have a BA in another major (so I've done most of the GE's) and I guess it's the only online program to count in CA? Anyhow, it's not easy, the time commitment is crucial! I moved 4 blocks away from campus to make life easier cause it will take up most of your time studying. Then again some managed to work and did graduate. They did help us, they want you to graduate but there were many times I wasn't sure if I would make it! Took us 3 months to get our letters to register for the NCLEX which I am taking in 2.5 weeks OMG!!! That's stress! Ok back to studying! :)

Hey,

I just graduated from the Unitek program as well...and I completely agree with the above post. It is a very intense program, but if you want to get your LVN done in a short amount of time, I think it's the best route. It took you three months to get your letter JUST to register for the NCLEX??? Oh myyy....I'm so anxious to start working. Did you work anywhere while you waited to take the NCLEX? I've applied to a few positions as an MA.....has Unitek helped you find a job? I'm working with their career center at getting leads and what not, but I don't think that will do any good until I take/pass my NCLEX....or at least have a date. Any info will help!!

Thanks

yes, we graduated in mid-October, got out letters to register for the nclex around Jan 10th. I went to visit family overseas for 2.5 months and returned in early Jan. I received the letter about a week later. I am taking the nclex in less than a week and Unitek has just sent me emails about helping me with a resume and finding a job. I will start to look into that once the nclex is behind me. I have a friend who worked at ucsf ,while she waited for the letter, as a medical transcriber I think. She was writing up things in charts and paid quite well but it was a temp job - she signed up in a temp agency while she waited, that might be a good option in the interim. She was working with nurses and in a hospital, she learned a lot and she was paid $20 an hour which isn't bad! Who knows why California is sooo slow with everything! I mean there's a nursing shortage right! :) I mean we are the only ones I believe who have to wait 3-4 weeks to find out our NCLEX results via snail mail...meanwhile there's this huge nursing shortage...???
